Not as small as I used to be...

Today I saw a spider and decided I wanted a closer look. But it was hanging up near the top of the kitchen cabinets. No problem! I used to go up there all the time when I was younger. Uh Oh - then I remembered the last time I tried. I knocked over a bottle of this stuff and it broke and made dad angry (see "In the D*ghouse" diary entry). But that is gone now... I figured no problem. I climbed on the counter then up onto the top of the fridge. Hmmm at this point I remembered why I stopped going up there - I am a LOT bigger now. But I made it this far, I wasn't backing down now!

I squeeeeeeeeezed into the space between the cabinets and the ceiling. I had to crawl to get to the spider. I reached it and batted it around a little. It wasn't too much fun though since I couldn't move much. So I ate it.

When dad got up he looked for me and called me. Hehe - I was watching him the whole time from my lofty perch. He finally did look up when he saw some of the stuff that was on the fridge knocked to the floor. "Aedan," he said, "you're too big to be up there! How are you going to get down?"

Oops, I didn't think of that! But I showed him - I cautiously moved my way down to the fridge and then hopped down to the counter. Then down to the floor. Dad had a frown on his face but I know he was impressed with my dexterity.

Eating the spider was not a good idea. I got sick a little while later. Dad knew exactly why. Spiders shouldn't look so yummy if they are going to make you sick!!!

Dad Calls Me "Hurricane Aedan"!

What's the big deal? I just had a really good nap and was full of energy. I was burning it off by running around haphazardly. I didn't know my own strength and yanked down the windowblinds. Boy was dad mad! He had to get out a tool kit and drill holes and all sorts of hard stuff like that. What can I destroy next?

In The D*ghouse

Dad was a little upset with me this morning. I woke him up at the usual 4:30 am for breakfast. He grumbled but went down the stairs. Before he turned on the kitchen light (I think before his eyes were open), he said "what the..." Then he turned on the light and saw he was standing in some funny smelling liquid.

Oh, I forgot to mention that I was playing around and jumped up on the refrigerator and knocked over this cylinder shaped thing that had been there for a while. It made a crash noise and then the liquid spilled on the floor.

Dad fell to the floor and started saying some naughty words... then he grabbed his foot and began picking pieces of green glass out of it. I guess the glass breaking is what made that crashing sound.

At that point I think dad's brain finally woke up and he immediately examined my paws to make sure I didn't step on the glass. Come on, I'm not stupid, why would I do that?! Once he saw I wasn't hurt he scolded me saying, "Aedan, that was a VERY expensive bottle of 12 year old Jameson Irish whiskey. It wasn't even opened. I was saving it for a special occasion. You need to be more careful!" Hmpf! I think HE needs to be more careful not to put breakable stuff in MY way! Anyway, if the stuff was 12 years old, I did him a favor! It was probably past the expiration date (smelled like it). Now he can go out and buy a fresh bottle.

Dad was grumbling as he pulled out the mop and this yucky stuff called "Pine Sol" and cleaned the floor. I guess it's not what he wanted to be doing at 4:45 am (oh, I made sure he fed me first). Then he had to go around the floor on his hands and knees picking up tiny pieces of glass so I wouldn't step on them and get a boo boo.

By the time dad was done he wasn't mad at me anymore. I guess he expects stuff like this from me after 2 1/2 years of living together. He said "Aedie, I'm going back to bed. If you know what's good for you, you will leave me alone until my alarm goes off."

I will give him about 15 minutes and then I will jump on his chest looking to be pet (hehe).

Digging in the archives...

I was perusing the internet and stumbled across my first attempt at a website. I was pretty advanced for being only 3 1/2 months old. Here is a review of toys that I did back then...

I decided to provide a valuable service for all of you who have cats. I am going to review some toys. I have done extensive research (play). I hope you find my suggestions worthwhile.

Spotty Fur Mouse
I got this toy because I hid my original toy mouse (tip to cats: hide your toys and get new ones!). This toy is great for chewing and chasing. It has a chamber for catnip which always enhances the playing experience. The mouse is small enough so that you can pick it up and carry it around. It has a leather tail which is way too small. I had my dad tie a long length of yarn on the tail which makes it a much better toy.

Rating: 4 out of 5 paws

Black Mouse on a Retractable String
This has got to be one of the worst toys out there. It is a black fuzzy mouse that looks like a rat. The retractable string makes a scary noise and it doesn't work very well. I am frightened by this so called "toy" and will not go near it!

Rating: 0 out of 5 paws

Brown Mouse
This is my favorite mouse. It is soft and chewy. I like to grab it with my front paws and bite on it. It is also very easy to hide on my dad since it blends in with brown things. He always thinks I've lost it!

Rating: 5 out of 5 paws

Fishy Rope Chew Toy
Love it love it love it! This milk scented toy has two hard ends with a thick rope middle. The orange plastic ends are in the shape of a fish head and tail. I like to bat this around on the kitchen floor. It really zooms along! The only negative is that it is small enough to get lost underneath the refrigerator. Boy does that make my dad ticked off!

Rating 4.5 out of 5

Multicolored Plastic Monkeys

My dad calls these "Barrel full of monkeys". Whatever. These hard plastic monkeys are so much fun to bat around on the linoleum. They really whiz back and forth and they spin around too which adds to the fun. My favorite is the red monkey which, alas, has been lost for several weeks deep underneath the stove.

Rating: 3 out of 5 paws

Plastic Ball with a Bell Inside

This is a good toy for baby cats (come on... I'm 3.5 months old now!). I find it quite boring for a sophisticated older cat such as I am. It's OK to play with in a pinch or as a change of pace, but it is not my first choice.

Oh Wow! The Colors!

Yesterday dad was listening to music on his laptop and I happened to glance at the screen. There were all kinds of cool colors and shapes floating around in time to the music! It was so cool! I just sat and stared for about 30 minutes which is a long time for me to sit still! Dad was laughing at me but who cares? I thought it was one of the coolest things I ever saw. I can't wait for dad to listen to more music!

My Tail of Devotion for Aedan

You are the brightest ray of sunshine in my day. You wake me with a gentle paw on my face. You are there to say "goodbye" to me when I leave for work. You are at the door to eagerly greet me when I get home. And you are there when I close my eyes at night.

You entertain me with your antics. You never cease to amaze me with how smart you are. You never judge me when I'm looking ragged or I'm not at my best. You always seem to know when I'm down and you never fail to cheer me up. You are a true friend.

I have known you since I was a little baby. You took me in and gave me a home. You are always spoiling me with treats and toys and you talk to me like I am a person. Sometimes I really want to play and, even though you're tired, you play with me. You are my bestest buddy.

I remember a time when they were going to throw us out of our home unless you got rid of me because they didn't allow pets. But you did not abandon me and you decided to move so we could stay together. They ended up letting us stay but I really admire the way you stood up for me. We are a team and we will be together always. You are a true friend.

This is a special Tail of Devotion

Trip to the "V" word

Today my dad brought me to the vet (sorry about using that bad word). I had to get my nails trimmed and fur de-mated. See - I don't like being touched on the feet and when dad tries he gets bit. Also, I don't like being brushed from my midsection back to my tail. Again, dad... bitten.

Sooo - dad thought that the vet could do a better job with my nails and fur. I tell you I put up a mean fight right from the get go. It took 2 assistants to hold me while the vet clipped me. And I still managed to get away. I gave them my meanest hiss and showed them my fangs. I also swiped at them with my paws (claws not out though - didn't want to hurt anyone just scare them).

They eventually got my back paws done but not my front ones. They gave up. I won that battle. Then came the fur trim...

The lady that was trimming my fur did a good job getting the first few mats without taking too much fur off. Then I ran out of patience and began wriggling to get free. She shaved a big bald spot on my butt right in front of my tail (my beautiful orange fur!!!). It feels really weird not to have fur there. Dad says it will grow back. It better...

Dad felt bad for me because I cried real tears. He bought me special treats and paid extra attention to me all day. That was the only good part about this whole ordeal.

Catster Anniversary

Hooray!!! I've been on catster for a whole year! That's nearly half my lifetime. I am so glad to have found a lot of friends here. I am pretty shy about meeting kitties in person, it is much easier to meet them by computer.

The other day dad was petting me and noticed I have mats near my tail. He gets mad sometimes because I won't let him brush me for more than a few minutes. He said the mats are what I get for not letting him brush me. He said he might have to bring me to someone called a "groomer" to get my fur shaved off!!! I don't want that to happen!

Father's Day is coming up and I have to find a gift for my dad. Hmmm, what to get? I am not an outdoor kitty so I can't catch him a mouse or bird. Maybe I will just be extra nice to him on Sunday and let him sleep past 4am. We shall see.

New old pictures...

I found some pictures of myself when I was an oh so cute kitten. They are the last 3 pics displayed. They were taken the first few days I was at my current home. I wasn't too sure about the guy taking these pictures but I grew accustomed to him. Just as long as he doesn't forget to feed me on time!!!

New Toy

Hi everyone -

Dad just got me a new toy. He said he sent away for it through the mail. I don't know what that is but I'm glad he did because the new toy ROCKS!!! It is a hot dog shaped thing that feels like a mini pillow. They must have put some really kickin' catnip in it because I can't seem to stop playing with it. I grab it with my paws and hug it to my chest. Then I lick and bite it. Then I throw it up in the air and pounce on it. I hide it when I'm resting or eating so no one else can touch it.

OK - time to go play with my toy again then a short nap until dad gets home. Then it's SUPPER TIME!!!

Later, cats!
