Arrival Story:
A lady I worked with told me that her cat had a litter of kittens. Her adult daughter had first choice of kittens, but then her husband said no cats. All of the other kittens had been adopted, but now this "pick of the litter" was still in need of a home. I had never had a cat before but had recently moved out of my parents' house and into my own apartment. The poodle I had grown up with died two years previously, and I missed having a pet. A cat seemed like the perfect choice since I lived in an apartment, so the lady brought her to work one night and I took her home.

Bio:
Itty was a very un-social cat. She pretty much hated everyone, but her love for me was off the charts! Very few people got to see how sweet and precious she really was, but I knew -- and that's all that mattered. We had a very special bond, and I miss her every single day. She developed hyperthyroidism in early 2003. I attempted to get radioactive iodine treatment for her at the University of Minnesota Veterinary School, but they refused to treat her because she was uncooperative. She went on medication instead, but then became anemic in late 2003. A specific cause could not be determined, and attempts at treatment failed. She died in the best possible way -- safe and quiet at home, snuggling in bed with mommy.

I Loved You Best

So this is where we part, my friend,
and you'll run on, around the bend.
Gone from sight, but not from mind,
new pleasures there you'll surely find.
I will go on, I'll find the strength,
life measures quality, not its length.
One long embrace before you leave,
share one last look, before I grieve.
There are others, that much is true,
but they be they, and they aren't you.
And I, fair, impartial, or so I thought,
will remember well all you've taught.
Your place I'll hold, you will be missed,
the fur I stroked, the nose I kissed.
And as you journey to your final rest,
take with you this ... I loved you best.

They say memories are golden,
well, maybe that is true.
I never wanted memories,
I only wanted you.
A million times I needed you,
a million times I cried.
If love alone could have saved you,
you never would have died.
In life I loved you dearly,
in death I love you still.
In my heart you hold a place,
no one can ever fill.
If tears could build a stairway,
and heartache make a lane,
I'd walk the path to Heaven
and bring you back again.
Our family chain is broken
and nothing seems the same.
But as God calls us one by one,
the chain will link again.
