Arrival Story:
Tango was a 'free range' cat in our neighbourhood, one who appeared to have had a home as a kitten, and then perhaps kicked out at some point? A neighbour told us that there had been a house down the block a couple years ago that housed a cat-horder who moved abruptly and simply kicked all the kitties out rather than face charges!!
In any case, we feed the feline neighbours who stop by (and no, we don't end up with more and more - we end up able to catch some and take them to be neutered, and find homes for litters of kittens. Tango spent the summer enjoying romping in the the yard, peering through the windows, and eating a regular evening meal.
Then he started warming up, first to the Guy of the house - he seems to trust men more than women. It got to the point where when we'd go for a walk he would stand at the point where he felt his territory ended and meow after us!
Not long after that the nights were getting longer, and Tango (who had his own name by this point) was alowing petting from 'His Guy'. One day, as the Guy was heading out to work, Tango ran in the open door. This, of course, left the remaining 'cat-slave' in the house to keep an eye on him as he ran frantically all around the house, and finally settled for running back out the open door. He was waiting that evening on the porch, however, and when his Guy opened the door they both came in.
Except for vet visits, Tango has only left the house one time, by mistake, and was very upset by it. He regarded his visit for neutering and shots as proof of his welcome, rather like an initiation ceremony, and tends to treat the rest of the cats with a 'policing' attitude - becoming upset when rules aren't followed and spending time trying to calm any foster kitties that come through. He sleeps beside his Guy's bed, and guards the bathroom door when his Guy goes to the litterbox. He has come to accept the Guy's mate quite well, although he dislikes some of his people's odder ideas, such as claw-trimming. Like most oranges, he is a major snugglebug.
Bio:
Tango is very friendly with the other kitties in the house, most especially with Tyr, a marmalade Manx. They like to wait at the top of the stairs and run down in unison ahead of any 2-legged household members.
