Love Train

A couple weeks ago our Mom and Dad got to play a small part in a transport helping a rescued kitty get from her foster home near Kansas City to her new furever home near Phoenix. They call the transports "Love Trains", and this one came right through Albuquerque. The Mom of Catsters Senna and family told our Mom about the Love Train... and Mom signed up to be a driver.

Our Mom drove a couple of hours east from Albuquerque to pick up the kitty from another driver, then drove the kitty back to Albuquerque and met another driver, who continued on westward with the kitty.

Mom said the kitty was a very good traveler. When Mom or Dad talked to her, she'd "meow" in reply, but otherwise she didn't say much. She even slept for a little while.

When they got to Albuquerque and were waiting at the meeting point for the other driver to arrive, Mom let the kitty out of her cage (inside the car) for a few minutes. She was very interested in what was going on outside the car and didn't seem scared or stressed at all. Here are a couple photos of her:

(1) Traveling in her cage

(2) Looking around while the car was stopped

Mom crocheted a pink blanket and sent it along with the kitty to her new home, but never heard whether it got there or got lost along the way. That's okay, though, Mom will still make another blanket for the Love Train kitty the next time she gets to help in another transport.

The group that organizes the transports has one or more Love Trains going various places every weekend -- wherever a kitty needs a ride to get to their home. Mom said the experience was fun and rewarding, so she hopes she gets to help again soon. Here's a great video about the group, which is named the Underground Railroad Rescued Kitty Network (URRKN). The group was formed after Jack the cat was lost at J.F.K. Airport in New York a year ago. Jack's story had a tragic ending but it was the inspiration for the URRKN Love Trains:

And here are Ashlynne and I forming our own Love Train. Ashlynne is the caboose!

Awww, the rescue kitty is pretty. How wonderpurr that she was helped to have her own forever home. Too bad that you two didn't get to go along. You could have stopped at the Cracker Barrel. Your Mom is brave. Our Mom is afraid to let us out of the porta prisons when we're in the car, let along a strange kitty. Mom is afraid we would disappear under the seat never to be seen again, MOL.

You and Ashlynne make a nice Love Train.

Timo, based on what the previous driver said, Mom was fairly confident the kitty wasn't going to go under the seats and not come out, but Mom would have been in a pickle if she had!

What a wonderful thing for your Mom and Dad to do! We'll check out the site and see if we can help.
Hugs, Gentleman Jack

The car looks so furrmiliar.... *thinking* Hey, that looks like the inside of our Cat Recreational Vehicle. I was in it a week ago when I had to go to the vet. Timo has never been in it. Is your car's last name Honda too?

Thanks Rider, Samhain and Jasper!

Jasper, I'll have Mom find out whether your Mom could sign up to be a driver on the Love Train without being on Facebook.

That is so cool! Mom isn't on Facebook either, but that doesn't matter, as she can't drive. :( But if she could she would love to do that kind of stuff. When her health gets better she'll try to get her driver's license, and maybe then she can help out.

We liked the pic of your Love Train.

Annie, yes they're on Facebook. Not sure if this link will work for you:
http://www.facebook.com/groups/URRKN/

If the link doesn't work, type this in the Search box on Facebook:
Underground Railroad Rescued Kitty Network

Mom can't remember if you can see the group postings before you join the group or not. But just request to join and an admin will let you in and welcome you. You can belong without signing up to be a driver, too. They welcome cheerleaders!

This is wonderful! We are so glad your mom and dad helped! Our mom and dad would like to as well, but our new old car has 4 40 air conditioning....Aunt Jen-Ingens mom told us that means you open all 4 windows and drive 40 miles an hour to keep it cool. It needs fixing, but maybe there is something else we could do.

Ruffy, they welcome support of any kind, even if it's just cheering on the drivers. Here's the link to the group on Facebook:

Your mom will have to request to join the group, but an admin usually responds quickly. I hope your mom will join!

Dad just joined the group. He has heard of it but hasn't heard of anyone needing drivers in our area when he saw postings for drivers on Catster in the past. We are NY about 50 minutes northwest of NYC. What your Mom did was great! What a pretty kitty.

Pawsome, Murray! Have your dad send in his documents to be a driver, so the URRKN can put a 'dot' on their map, showing they have a volunteer in that area. When they set up their transport routes, they consider where they have dots on the map and map out the routes accordingly. Thanks!!

Dear Beepers, You must be very proud to have such parents. That was a pretty black cat they helped. And she knew she had been given a pretty special pink blanket made just for her, even if, perhaps, her new parents didn't. I think you are so beautiful!

Thank you, Sofia! My parents didn't do very much - not like some of the other people in that group. I do hope the kitty got her pink blanket!

And you are very beautiful, Sofia! Thank you for stopping by. I hope you're feeling better after your dental surgery (Mom told me about it). We're purring for you!
