The Most Popular Cat Names That Start With L

While there are tons of names that start with L, these are the ones that are currently the most popular.

1. Luna

Luna is by far the most popular name for female cats this year, and it’s also one of the most popular names for cats overall. The name is derived from the Latin for “moon”, and related to Roman mythology (“Goddess of the Moon”).

2. Leo

Another name that comes from Latin, Leo, of course, means “lion”, and it’s been one of the most popular male cat names for several years running. It would be a good choice for a boy cat born under the astrological sign of Leo (July 23–August 22).

3. Lola

Spanish for “sorrows”, the name Lola has evolved to mean “feminine beauty”. Fun fact: Lola means “grandmother” in Tagalog, which is a shortened form of the Spanish abuela.

4. Lily

Year after year, Lily continues to appear at the top of the charts for female cat names. Most directly related to the lily flower, Lily means “purity and innocence” in English etymology.

5. Lucy

Latin for “light”, Lucy has been a mainstay of female cat names for decades, first coming to popular culture with Lucille Ball and I Love Lucy (1950–60s TV show).

6. Loki

Loki is the god of mischief in Norse mythology, but most of us know him as a loveable trickster in Marvel movies.

7. Luffy

Luffy has been trending like crazy over the last year or two, with an 89% increase in pet parents choosing this name. The name has a variety of connotations in different cultures, but our favorite is “king of pirates, joyful person”.
