Will a fixed male cat and an unfixed female cat get along.

I adopted a 3 year old fixed male cat and my 2 year old unfixed female cat is not taking to very well. Is this a phase since I just brought him home? How long should it take for them to be ok with eachother?

Have patience. It takes a minimum of two weeks to two months for a new cat to adjust to a new home. For that cat, everything has changed and he has a lot to adjust to. Most of the time, the new cat will hiss in fear if the resident cat comes too close to him. The resident cat usually will just back off. Gradually as the newcomer adjusts to everything, he will start being more relaxed and confident and stop the fearful behavior.
