What causes a UTI?

He is peeing everywhere on everything but he still poops in his box.

Its just the same as in people. There's always bacteria in the environment and you can end up getting an infection. Sometimes health problems like diabetes, weak immune system or crystals in the urine can cause cats to get UTI's frequently so the vet will probably check for these at the same time.

When you get a UTI you have to pee very often and its uncomfortable so cats often can't get to their litter box in time. Doesn't impact their pooping at all so he is still a clean cat and going normally when he can.

The vet will be able to give him a test to confirm what the problem is then give him a course of antibiotics which will clear up the UTI quickly and everything should return to normal.
