update: Help! my cat lost weight rapidly.. I just got back from ER. They took a urine sample and said he has a kidney...
infection. they gave him hydration (dehydrated even though he's been drinking alot!??) and antibiotic shot that lasts 2 weeks. they said it could progress[ed] to blood infection. If he doesnt seem better I may have to bring him to ICU care :(
I'm worried sick still. I wanted to thank everyone for their answers and let you know what has happened since 1st post. Please pray for my Zippo to get better. The vet wasnt 100% hopeful that he may recover but I am praying for Zippo anyway and will do whatever I have to to help him get better.
He did try to eat when we got home (1st time in 2 days!!) so that is a good sign. He is still very disoriented and seems confused. (I didnt know how to update my existing ? so I had to start a new one (if anyone knows how to do that let me know and I will try not to clutter up posts).
Thank you all again for your insight. Zippo thanks you too. He is such a good cat and so loving he's purring even when he's not feeling well. Pray 4 him please?

There is no way to update your previous thread after the first 90 minutes from when you posted so THANK YOU for updating us this way. It is the only way. Zippo has the purrs and prayers of Allie and her 6 sisters. Thank goodness you went to the ER with him!

Allie is right. We will all pray for Zippo to recover. Keep in constant contact with your vet and ask about a specialty clinic with vets who specialize in sick kitties who need specialists and a higher level of care than is available at a regular vet clinic. We will pray very hard that your sweet and loving kitty is OK. Please keep us update on how he is doing. We care!!!!

I'm so glad you took Zippo to an ER vet, and that they were able to identify what (or some of what) is happening with him.
But, I'm concerned about how your regular vet treated this. It's not right to not just brush off your concerns and obviously serious issues, especially when he just had all that costly dental work done. I'm also wondering why they didn't spot kidney problems... (unless that occured later).
I hope you can find another vet who can help him and work with you. We are sending Zippo more healing purrrayers. He sounds like a wonderful boy - it's evident how much you care about him. Try to keep us updated if you can. Hugs!

Wow, sounds like quite an ordeal! I'm glad Zippo is starting to feel like himself and purring more!
Did they mention that feeding cats dry food can cause them to be perpetually dehydrated, even if they drink a lot? They are used to getting water in their food so they don't really get thirsty until it is way too late. That perpetual dehydration can lead to kidney issues like little Zippo had. You should try feeding him part wet food at least, and even mixing some extra water into that. Raw is even better, but it isn't feasible for everyone. Good luck to you and Zippo! I hope he gets better fast.
