The cat from next door stays at my back door all night scaring my cat from coming home. Any help?

The cat from next door is not vicious and looks really lonely. My cat hates her and is terrified to come home at night, sometimes hiding out in freezing weather. I really dont know what to do, and any help would be greatly appriciated.

I cant be sure but i think that my neighbours may be neglecting their cat, as she doesnt have a name, seems to stay out every night, and generally looks sad.

Im probably just being stupid but im really worried about her, although im really torn because of my own cat!!

First of all, your cat wouldn't be afraid to come home if it was already home! If you let your cat roam freely, well you are the one who is subjecting your cat to much more than another cat! You, and only you, can control your own cat. Keep your cat indoors and then you wouldn't have to worry about it!!!! EASY!!!

From your spelling "neighbours," I assume that there is a possibility that you are British. We know from British members of Catster that it is considered cruel to keep cats inside all the time. But in this case, it might be kinder to your cat to make him/her an indoor kitty. Not only will that solve the problem of him/her being frightened by your neighbors' cat, but it will prevent him/her from getting run over, fighting with other cats, or catching nasty diseases. Are you on good terms with your neighbors? Maybe you could bring up this issue in a polite manner the next time you see them in their yard or on the street--not criticizing the way your neighbors treat their cat, but just indicating that your own cat feels threatened by the other cat's standing by your back door all night.
