Your cat has probably got ear mites or an ear infection. Regardless, he needs to be seen by a vet ASAP. Don't try to treat him yourself.

Definitely sounds like an ear infection! Yeast gives off a terrible odor. It does need to get cleaned out; the vet can either prescribe you something or you can try an ear cleaner I like; it's called PETfection Ear Cleaner. It is Organic and Non Toxic, it works great at clearing up yeast and mite infections. Either way, the sooner the better!

Excellent advice from the others. I just wanted to add what the consequences of an untreated ear infection can potentially be. When I got Kira, she apparently had ear mites and had previous ear infections that the breeder had not treated. She ended up needing a very serious surgery called a bulla osteotomy which cost me aproximately $2000 and put my baby's life at risk. Much better to schedule a vet visit and have it treated for probably less than $100 than to run the risk of serious health issues or deafness.
