My cat is getting neutered today, is there anything I can do to help him recover?
My cat is getting neutered today. He is about 7-8 months old. Any tips on helping him to recover from the surgery? Also he is getting a dental cleaning. Thank you!

Cats are pretty self-sufficient in that department. Neutering is not as intensive as spaying. He will have just a little incision and the vet will most likely use surgical "glue" to close the incision. He'll be a little subdued when you bring him home, but that will wear off soon. Don't feed him a big meal when you bring him home, he may be nauseous from the anesthesia and his mouth may be a little sore from the cleaning. Your kitty will rely on you to eyeball the incision to make sure it's not swollen, oozing anything or overly red. Make sure he's not doing a whole lot of licking back there either. Vets seldom give pain pills for neutering because cats usually don't need them. He'll be up and about in no time. And, three cheers to you for doing the right thing and having him neutered!

Yep, what Izzie said. Just time and lots of TLC. When Oscar had his done, he was very sleepy for a day or so then he was his usual rambunctious self.
