my cat has scabs on her back and tail. Hair is scarse on those areas.
My cat has scabs on her back and tail. She is itchy. It is not fleas. There is no flea in her body, not in my house. Can it be ringworm or chiggers, which I have seen outside my house. My cat is alowed in the porch and front garden on warm weather, and have no skin problems, but I noticed in the fall, she starts getting this problem again (this is second year). She is inside all winter and she has that problem all winter and she virtually has no hair on her tailbone and lower back and part of the tail. By the time spring comes along, the hair and sking goes back to normal. It is not fleas. What is the difference between ringworm vs chiggers. I have seen my gardens infested by those little red bugs. Can ringworm or chiggers be treated safely with over the counter medication?. My cat has no scabs on her head, neck, chest, ears, or legs. Everything is concentrated on her back, sides of back, tailbone and tail. - Pleae HELP !!!

It's very difficult to "diagnose" what kind of skin condition your kitty might have without actually seeing her. And, even if you posted a photo, it would still be 99% impossible. It could be a seasonal allergy. It could be ringworm, which is NOT a "worm" but a virus and is extremely contagious to people and other pets. It cannot be treated with any OTC meds and must be controlled by the interference of a vet. Unless your cat was allergic to chigger bites, it shouldn't cause hair loss. Have you checked her for fleas? To be really honest, the only way for you to find out what it truly is is to take her to the vet's. Since she goes outside, she should have all her vaccinations, including rabies to protect her. I can tell you that my daughter's cat had the same issue and it was due to stress. Your cat may not like being inside during the winter even though it's for her own comfort. The vet suggested Science Diet for Sensitive Skin. I feed Delilah that as well and it seems to help.
