my cat has been coughing for almost a week now like he has hairball stuck in his throat-is that possible for that long??

We are not vets here, only people who love cats... but this sounds like more than a hairball. I'd recommend you take Chico to your vet to get checked out. I've dealt with feline asthma in two cats, and feline asthma attacks often look and sound very similar to hairball hacking. If he has asthma, it can be serious and he'll need to start treatment right away. Good luck, hope he feels better soon!

Linus is absolutely right. If your kitty has been coughing for this long, there is something medically wrong with him. He needs to go to the vet for an exam and treatment. We are sorry, but there isn't anything we can do for him through a computer. Even if we've had a cat who's had the same thing, we can't diagnose and suggest treatment for your cat. Please take him to the vet--if you don't have one, now is a good time to find one. If money is a concern, there are low cost vet clinics in almost every city nowadays, just google one in your hometown. Good luck and let us know how he's doing!
