My cat has a ongoing problem with UTI. The vet told me not to feed her anything with fish in it-because of the magnesium

Does the cat need a certain kind of food because of having a UTI??? What kinds of food are good for her??

Your vet mentioned this because magnesium is thought to contribute to kidney stones. He must have made suggestions on what foods to feed her. I'm afraid you'll get a bunch of different responses because what to feed is a hot topic here on Answers. Do some research online and ask your vet for input and choose what you can afford to feed her.

It is important for a kitty with a UTI to get LOTS of water- it flushes out their system. The best way to get water into your kitty is to feed wet food- no fish flavors. You can also buy some baby food- meat flavored with NO ONIONS and NO GARLIC- you can mix it with water to make a broth that your kitty can drink. Good luck!

Nadia

Tasha gave you good info about food for cats with urinary issues. Wet food and increased water is recommended. And yes the fish-based foods are not good for cats with urinary issues and in general.
Here are a couple of links with more information about urinary health:

And here is some information about the problems with cats eating too much fish: www.littlebigcat.com

Best wishes and purrs...
