My 3 year old part Maine Coon cat has never meowed or purred.

She is not an affectionate cat. Seems happy and content to just be in the same room I am. No other pets. Shelter kitty. doesn't want to be picked up or petted. Rarely climbs up on my lap but when she does, doesn't stay five minutes. She is my baby and I love her dearly. Just wondered if other cats do not purr or meow.

Squeaky

Both of our kitties really only meow when they want food, or to be let in the bedroom if they shut out. Both of them also purr very very softly and sometimes you can only tell cause you can feel it vibrating in your throats, but you can't hear it. Squeaky is a part feral that was found days old at a construction site and my boyfriend adopted and hand raised. She is very independant and doesn't like to be held for more than 5 seconds (and is usually already squirming even then) she never sits in laps, but she may sit nearby, or at least in the same room. She rarely likes to be petted, but might let you pet her if you've been away for a while, and even then just for a little bit before she scratches or leaves. She is his specialy little lady and he loves her to death no matter what, it's jsus how she is. If you're kitty is from a shelter he may have a sad and scary past thats effected him or also be part feral.

I got a maine coon a few years ago too...

She never really purrs either, she only meows when she wants to go out in the backyard with her harness and hang out in the sun.

But she never sits on laps... sleeps in bed, voluntariily gets on your lap. she's not affectionate either... at all.

I'm sorry she's not all cuddly, maybe it's just their breed?

My 7 year old Main Coone is very affectionate. She loves to be petted and hugged and puts her little head on my lap to go to sleep. She also makes a strange purring sound that is very loud when she plays with her feather toy. She also has a purr that is almost like a dog's growl.
I don't think this breed is unaffectionate. They are also very loyal and very smart.
