Is there anything to help our kitty when she keeps going in heat other than getting her fixed?

we love her playfulness and dont want that to change but she keeps going into heat and it gets worse ever time she is miserable and us too. Is there anything to help her other than spaying.

Why in the world would you want to continue putting both your kitty and you thru the miseries of going into heat??? I have had many, many cats over the years, and after spaying (or neutering males) they have never once stopped being playful and just as wonderful as they were before. Also, with millions of cats being killed in shelters each year, the chances of her escaping your house & getting pregnant and adding to this death toll is extremely high. And, on top of that, female cats that are not spade have a much higher rate of various cancers & other complications. Clearly you have some misinformation on the effects of spaying a kitty. Please talk to a vet or someone else who can give you the true facts on this. Please be responsible. You will have a better cat with the spay, you won't be contributing to the uncountable kitten death toll, and you'll ALL have a much more wonderful quality of life for it. Good Luck! I know you won't be sorry you did it!!

I agree completely with Nathaniel. I have 9 spayed girls and they play all the time. Nothing changed when I spayed them aside from a brief healing period and I would never dream of having a female and not spaying her. In fact, Piper was spayed on 6/20 and you would never know it. Her belly is healed, the fur is growing back and yesterday she flew through the air and ate a bug in mid leap. The health benefits alone are the biggest favor you can do for her. It eliminates the risks of certain cancers and pyometra. In addition to eliminating the risk of her getting out to find a mate and getting pregnant with an unwanted litter of kittens. Cats in heat are not happy until they mate. Please do this for your poor girl!!

You clearly have misinformation concerning spaying. I'd know plenty of female cats who were spayed & they still act the same as usual. Why put her & yourself through the misery of heat cycles? There are lots of health benefits to getting her spayed as well.

As you can see by the answers you've received, there is no reason not to spay your cat unless you are a registered breeder. It is a myth that cats become lazy, lethargic and fat when spayed. They become fat because they are fed too much. They become lazy or lethargic because they don't have enough to do to keep their interest. There is always a chance that, if you cat is so miserable during heat cycles, she's plotting a way to escape your home to mate. This, in a nutshell is why she's so miserable. Spaying is not a dangerous operation. It's done many times each day in vet clinics all over the USA. Low cost spay/neuter clinics are also available if money is tight. Your cat won't miss her "female parts" and she certainly won't miss the heats that make you all so miserable.

Spaying her is the best option for both you and your kitty. Pick a good Vet and they will tell you all the procedures to follow. It is not as dramatic as it sounds.
