is it normal for a cat to only have one kitten in the litter?

my cat gave birth to a single kitten this morning. is it normal to only have a singleton in the litter?

A single kitten is unusual but not necessarily cause for concern. It happens. Take a little extra care to make sure the kitten is well socialized. Kitties need their siblings to learn social skills. This little one is relying only on you and mom. If you don't plan on keeping the kitten, maybe postpone rehoming so s/he can have a little extra time with mum.
