First of all, make sure that both your cats are neutered. The 6 month old is old enough and depending on how old the kitten is and how much he weighs, he may be ready also. This will go a long way to cut down on territorial spraying and fighting. You need to give the cats time, but their times together, if you have not separated them, should be supervised by you. Planned playtimes with you with both and keeping a close eye on them. They need to get used to each other, but with your guidance and training. If the kitten is fearful, make sure you are always close-by when he and big brother are together. Stop interaction only if it gets out of hand, then separate them for a few minutes. Make sure each has his own box and food dishes.
