How is it best to introduce 2 new cats to a house that has had 2 other cats in for a number of years .

There is really no good way, especially if it is not a large house. Start off with the two new ones in a bedroom with everything they need- food, litter, toys etc. Let the others smell them out, hiss etc. Only allow short supervised visits until you are sure there will be no fighting, and then let the new ones out only while you are home, again until you can be guaranteed that when you leave, everything will be copacetic. You can treat the two prior residents with Greenies treats when they seem to accept the new felines into their territory. ^_^
