Zippo

HELP Please?! Zippo has taken a turn for worse. body temp is low & dehydrated again Stopped eating & drinking suddenly n

zero interest in water or broth anymore. I brought him back to the new vet again tues & had labs done. The kidney infection is gone but his liver enzymes were off. He's losing muscle mass & vet thinks maybe Hepatic Lipidosis. they put him on more ABX (flagyl & amox liquid) & pain med if needed. Had such a bitter reaction to taking it i had to put the doses in capsules. Day 2 of dosing him that way & he lost all interest in food (was eating about 1 tsp. a day) & water or broth(was successfully syringe feeding him- he licked it from syr) which he liked! now he's losing coordination again and not landing on his feet. Im so distraught went 2 new vet again today. I asked if temp. feeding tube would save his life & fix HL. Vet thinks he could be dying or I need 2 take 2 expensive ICU or make sure he eats & gets stable enough until I can get VCA (non-emer) hospital to give him care/tube. Please help with any advice? tween the2 vets &8 visits I have $475 left. Not enough $$ for emergency ICU

I'm so sorry Zippo is so sick! Yes, I agree from previous experience that an animal ER/ICU is very expensive. Do you have Care Credit?

www.carecredit.com

You can apply at many veterinary offices (I applied at my local animal ER). Basically, it's a credit card - but as long as you make your payments as agreed and pay off the balance during the promotional period - it's really an interest-free extended payment plan. You do have to be VERY careful to make you payments on time and pay off the balance with in the promotional period or you will get hit with finance charges and interest retro to the date of service!

Hepatic lipidosis is very serious and as you pointed out, ICU is very expensive. Ultimately only you can decide what to do and what is best for you and Zippo.

I'm so sorry this is happening. I wish the vet(s) had given him an appetite stimulant or told you to force feed him and told you how important it is that he eat. When cats stop eating hepatic lipidosis can occur. It is very serious; it can be fatal and, yes, he now needs vet care - in ICU. I did mention an appetite stimulant could be given in previous posts, but I guess I didn't say strongly enough how critical it that he eat - I'm sorry about that.
He is going to need care to get stabilized and then probably a feeding tube...I don't know what to say, but it is going to cost a lot to try to help him survive.
Darn it, I wish your vets had told you how important it is that he eat and tried a stimulant. It sounds like you haven't gotten the best care for your sweet Zippo. If he is going to survive he is going to need intense vet care - NOW
Consider the care credit...?

I know that you don't want to hear this, but having him put down sounds like the kindest thing to do in this case. If the vet thinks that he is dying then all you are doing is causing Zippo to suffer as you are just dumping money into trying to fix something that may not be fixable. If you truly care about him, stop his suffering. My prayers are with you.
