Help diagnose cats condition, lethargy, loss of appetite, low platelet count.

My cat has recently became extremely weak, and almost completly stopped eating. He does drink a little, he is a 13 year old house cat. i took him to the vet and they said he had a fever of 104, and low platelet count. He now just lies around and doesn't close his eyes much. i can also hear sort of a crackling in his purring. Right now i have him on steriods, an antibiotic and an appetite pill.

What does the vet think- we are not doctors here. Follow the vet's suggestions and see if your cat gets better. If not, you can always consult another vet for a second opinion. Has anything changed in his world, such as the loss or addition of a new human or pet? Emotional triggers can beget physical ones. 13 is old, but not on death row... so hopefully your cat still has a few lives left. Add an extra water bowl and make sure that he drinks (adding a low-noise fountain might help). ^_^
