Has anyone had immediate changes in their cat after plugging in a Feliway diffuser?
I had bought one almost a yr ago and never refilled it because I wasn't sure if my cat's calmer behavior was due to spay surgery, and because the spray kind doesn't seem to work for us, but I thought I would try it again because my two kitties are fine one day and at each other the next, so I had to try something. I plugged it in last night and within a couple hours, my one cat who gets the "kitty crazies" pretty much was lethargic in bed with me-he cuddles w/me everynight but usually gets up but last night he was calm and sleepy. I even woke him because I thought something was wrong, but he is fine. And there was no hissing this morning when he pounced on my other cat. Is the effect that immediate? I have a vet appt. for my girl for her 1st yr booster shot and I am not sure if I should take him in too in case something is wrong, or if it is just the Feliway already taking effect. He had his morning burst of energy and zipped around the house, so I think he's ok. Is it that quick?

I used to do animal rescue work and also handle the adoptions for our rescue through PetsMart. You can imagine how some cats would react to being caged. Some would just lie there and others would just freak out. Well, I tried a Feliway diffuser in the adoption center, and it had no affect whatsoever. In talking with other people there, they also said the effects of Feliway were minimal. I suppose that it's like the deodorizer scent diffusers, which you can smell almost immediately, the Feliway would distribute itself throughou a room pretty quickly. But I doubt seriously if this is what affected your kitty. Perhaps he just had a busy day and was extra tired. Keep an eye on him and if you notice a repeat of this behavior or if he goes off his food, call your vet.

I also tried a Feliway diffuser- I was fostering kittens, and whenever I brought new kittens in, the resident kittens would be very upset. The diffuser did not seem to help at all. Mine also got very hot, so I stopped using it because I was afraid to leave it on. I would think if it seemed to happen every night, maybe you are on to something- but it might have just been a one time thing ;)
