When cat is in heat, that means that she is ready for mating and that means that the eggs are ready to be fertilized. So only when in heat she'll lure males with her unique smell and with meowing. That means technically that she can't get pregnant while not in heat, cause she'll not call for males and so there will be no mating. But, from scientifically point i guess it's the same as with humans. There are fertile and non fertile days. So, even if the sperm comes in contact with the reproductive organs, it depends on how long can male cat sperm hold on without "ready" eggs.

PS Must say that it is a bit weird question...So sorry for a bit weird answer :)

Sergei is right. If a female is not technically "in heat", she will not want to knock dem boots with a male. However, females will start spotting for a few days before coming into full blown heat, so she might be in heat and you wouldn't notice it. Female cats are also notorious for false pregnancies ( a hormonal glitch) so if she's acting like she's preggers, she might not be. I'd say take her to the vet if she's acting weird, and while you're there, how about having her spayed? That will put an end to your pregnancy worries about her once and for all.

An unspayed female cat will only allow a male to mate with her when she is in heat. Even if you see no outward signs of her being in heat, if she's allowing a male to mount her, she's in heat. Also, the feline reproductive system is designed to stay in heat until pregnancy is achieved. So it is possible for your cat to be in heat constantly.

You can solve this problem by getting your cat spayed. Then there is no danger of her getting pregnant.
