A stray female cat had 3 kittens and brings them to me to feed. I would like to catch them to have them neutered and given the proper shots. What rescue/kitty aid group in my area can help? I would need to borrow the traps in order to catch them. I am more than willing to pay for the shots & neutering. I would like to get them adopted but will not bring them to a shelter that kills. I am in New Windsor NY 12553 area. Any help is appreciated. Thank you

I commend you for wanting to do the right thing by these babies and mama. However, if you have never handled feral cats before, you could be badly injured and should seek the help of a professional such as a local rescue group or your animal control officer. As a former animal rescue volunteer, I can vouch for the fact that a small kitty who is feral and/or protecting her babies can do BIG damage, leave scars and transmit unsavory things. You are a good person, but she won't care if you try to grab her out of a trap. I've seen feral cats bite THROUGH heavy canvas gloves. Seek the help of a local animal welfare group. You can find one on petfinder.com--just plug in your zip and/or city and a list should come up. You can also ask local vets for their suggestions. Good Luck and God Bless You!!

What an angel you are! Do contact you local animal control or SPCA/humane society, their numbers are in the phone book or contact a local vet - first these groups can have someone help you and second they can lend you the humane traps...Sometimes "feral" cats will get used to you so it'll be easier to get eveyone at the same time. And let the vet know you are helping feral kitties as they may just give you a break on the costs. Good luck!

Check Alley Cat Allies Website, there are rescue groups in your area who should be willing to help.

You'll need both a kitten trap, and an adult trap. The easiest way to catch them is set the traps to stay open with twist ties.

Put a layer of newspapers on the bottom, and buy Figaro Tuna Cat food. You want to pour the juice along the front of the trap to the back and put small amounts of food all the way to he back - the most amount in the back. Only feed in the traps.

Once everyone is comfy and trusting and eating in the traps, you can set them to go.

You need to make sure you do not leave the traps set unless you are there. They will panic when the trap snaps, so throw a towel over the trap. It will calm them down very quickly.

Make sure you can take them right to the Vet in the traps.

That's how Mom caught me, Amigo, Jessica and Fuzzy.

We will be purrin for all to go well! Paws up for helping this family
