Team Dogster: Meet the Staff
A cat wrangler and snuggler since toddlerhood, Vicky has worked at Dogster and Catster since the summer of 2011. She manages Dogster and Catster’s freelance writers and editors, although she dreams of building a time machine to visit pre-1906 San Francisco. She has also worked for SF Weekly and the East Bay Express.
During her more than 20 years in the newspaper business, Pamela Mitchell has written and edited on a variety of features beats, from arts and entertainment to healthcare and pets. She began contributing to Dogster in 2012, with her beloved Boston Terriers, Dolly and Spot, starring in many of her articles. Mitchell jumped at the chance to join Team Dogster full-time in 2014. After all, exploring the relationships between people and their pets, helping to promote noble causes such as animal rescue, and entertaining readers with silly posts about derpy dogs counts as a dream job in her book.
Lori celebrates the Spirit of Dogster and Power of the Paw as Dogster and Catster’s Community Manager. She has been managing passion-based online communities in travel, film arts, and pets for nearly 20 years. In her spare time, she advocates pet rescue and adoption, twirls around on her toes, feeds friends and family, and frolics around the globe.
A member of the Cat Writers’ Association, Bowers is a career journalist who has also covered the arts, politics, business, law, technology and crime for monthly magazines, alternative newsweeklies, websites and daily newspapers. Publications he has written for or edited include the Silicon Valley Business Journal, SF Weekly, the San Francisco Daily Journal and MacWEEK. He writes a Catster column called┬áCat Dandy, from the perspective of a fashion-conscious man who loves cats, engaging with readers on topics including behavior, health, humor and metaphysics. Bowers lives with one cat, a brown tabby named Thomas. He adopted his first cat at age 6, and over the course of his life has lived with 10 cats.
John (right) joined the Dogster and Catster team part-time in 2004, becoming full-time in 2007. Prior to Dogster, John taught broadcasting and communication classes at several universities and managed two college television stations. He lives in Texas with his wife, Tricia, and daughter, Hannah.
Most mornings, Michael follows his Bengal cat, Stella, around the house, trying to cut her nails. He writes and edits for Dogster and Catster, along with alternative newsweeklies and, one day, Highlights.
Janine is an award-winning writer and editor who has what some might call an unhealthy obsession with dogs. In 2009, she left the alternative newsweekly world behind to join Team Dogster, and since then has acquired four dog tattoos (and one cat tattoo). In past lives, Janine held web editor positions at SF Weekly, OC Weekly, The Online Journalism Review, and the Los Angeles Times. She currently operates as Executive Editorial Director, Digital at I-5 Publishing, Catster and Dogster’s new parent company.
