As any responsible cat owner knows, the Official Cat Constitution mandates that every feline has the inalienable right to avoid being dressed up in costumes during the holiday season. Unfortunately, a quick trawl through the annals of Instagram shows some flagrant violations of this very sacred feline freedom, mostly in the misguided name of forcing cats to wear deliberately ugly holiday sweaters. Here’s a photo roundup of six of the most heinous offenses we found on a recent search.

This decorous cat is simply too horrified to even dare to look at the holiday sweater.

Nothing celebrates the holiday season like sparkling sequins, right?

Sammy from Texas is caught on camera doing a remarkable impression of a holiday tea-towel. It’s safe to say he’s far from amused.

Putting a Christmas sweater on a cat is horrific enough, but letting said kitty be seen out and about in public in the offending garment is just cruel. Someone report this incident to the International Court of Feline Justice!

This cat is called Sir Charles. His chunky (and no doubt itchy) sweater is far from befitting of his fine breeding.

Yup, we have a winner!
