Ask a Cat Lady: Can My Pregnant Cat Have Catnip?

Nov 4th 2011  |   0 Contributions

So your cat got knocked up. Should she still get to play with her catnip mouse? Singer/songwriter and cat lady Sarah Donner talks pregnant kitties and herbal stimulation in this edition of Ask a Cat Lady.

The lyrics:

Have a Hit
by Sarah Donner

The lady kitty, she got knocked up
Behind a tree after a hit of nip she was
Taken by tomcat in the shadow
Now she needs something to help her just let go

It's okay to have a hit when you're
Pregnant and you're a cat
And it's catnip
There's nothing wrong with herbal stimulation
After carnal copulation

It's a hard time living on the streets
When you don't have a steady stream of kibbles and wet meats
Don't be a quitter if you're gonna have a litter
You can lick it, you can sniff it if it makes you feel better

Babies in your belly, yeah, you know it's gonna fatten
Try nepeta cataria if you're down with the Latin
All the cats can copy, when you feel like gettin' naughty
All you fuzzy little shawdies just rub it on your body!

It's okay to have a hit when you're
Pregnant and you're a cat
And it's catnip
There's nothing wrong with herbal stimulation
After carnal copulation
We all need a little self-medication

The Backstory: I came across the question about pregnant cats and catnip, and I couldn't help but picture a poor pregnant stray down on her luck. I have a stray named Olivia who just got trapped, neutered, and released. I wanted to give her a voice — well, give her the voice in my head anyhow. I gleaned most of my information from the Nepeta Cataria entry on Wikipedia, the Catster forums, and pregnantcatinfo.com.
