Guidelines for Controlling Cat Hair

  • Professional groomers offer regimens that combine special baths and extensive brushing to curtail heavy shedding for several weeks.
  • Devices called corner combs can be attached to the corners of walls. Placed at cat height, they are essentially bristled combs that felines enjoy rubbing against, extracting loose hair in the process.
  • If your cat favors a particular chair or section of the couch, place a piece of fabric on that spot for the feline to lie on. Never wash the fabric with other clothes, which will pick up the hair.
  • Wash hair-infested clothes with multiple dryer sheets—the better to help the hair make its way to the lint trap.
  • Particularly stubborn deposits can be removed from rugs, carpets, and upholstery by using a damp towel, which bunches up the hair into easily removable balls.
  • Fabric sprays that negate static cling also repel cat hair.
  • Fabric softener sheets can be rubbed over clothing to pick up cat hair.
