The cause of this recall is due to potential contamination with Salmonella.
What Products Were Recalled?
The recalled cat food is the Viva Duck for Cats and Viva Pure Duck Lot 22853. Dog food recipes in this lot are also included, such as Viva Duck for Dogs (Ground) and Viva Duck for Dogs (Chunked).
The pet food is packaged as frozen 1lb bricks in clear vacuum packaging.
What You Need to Know About Salmonella Poisoning
If your pet has a Salmonella infection, they may become lethargic and have fever, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, and vomiting. Some less obvious side effects are decreased appetite, fever, and abdominal pain. If your pet has become infected but is still otherwise healthy they can still be carriers of Salmonella and infect other animals or humans. If you know your pet has consumed the recalled product or is experiencing these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian immediately.
If you have products matching the following description and sell by date you should stop feeding them to your cats and dispose of them immediately.
There is a risk to humans from handling these contaminated kitten foods, especially if they have not washed their hands after having contact with the products or surfaces exposed to these pet foods.
People infected with Salmonella should monitor themselves for the following symptoms: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping, and fever.

Distributors, retailers, and consumers who have purchased these cat foods can contact Viva through this response form to receive a refund. Consumers are advised to destroy the food in a way that children, pets, and wildlife cannot access and sanitize pet food bowls, cups, and storage containers.
