Author

Carrie Pepper grew up telling her mother that she wanted to be a New York City editor, preferably with a high-rise office overlooking the Hudson. She says, “As a kid, my best friend was a yellow legal pad.” She launched her freelance career—literally on the wings of an eagle. After sending a query to Forestry Magazine about bald eagles, her very first article landed on the cover. “It was so exciting!” Her writing career spans 20 years, with articles and stories appearing in numerous magazines, including Entrepreneur, American Forests, and the Chicken Soup for the Soul publisher, HCI books. She penned a column —The Pepper Mill—in a regional publication, The Gates of Seminole, and is a member of the American Society of Journalists & Authors.

Carrie has rescued many cats over the years—some left behind, others who simply found their way to her, knowing she cared. All of her cats have been rescues, including her current companions, Lilly and Henry, who continue to inspire her with stories, antics, and endless photo moments.

Kevin Hall, New York Times bestselling author, speaker, and coach, calls Carrie Pepper a “heart writer”—a truth that shines through the pages of her memoir, Missing on Hill 700: How Losing a Brother in Vietnam Created a Family in America.

She has been honored to serve as a keynote speaker for veterans’ groups across Northern California, including Vietnam Veterans of Diablo Valley, Memorial Day in Walnut Creek, and POW/MIA Recognition Day in Vacaville, among others.

Carrie lives in West Sacramento, California, and has been known to keep kibble and a water dish in her trunk—just in case.
