Is my cat to skinny???

This forum is for cat lovers seeking everyday advice and suggestions on health-related issues. Remember, however, that advice on a public forum simply can't be a substitute for proper medical attention. Only your vet can say assuredly what is best for your cat.

Ok here's the deal my boy will be 3 soon, he's very loving and affectionate but he just looks to skinny to me. He weighs about 6 pounds possibly 7 which based on the research I've done is "normal" but he's literally all skin and bones! He doesn't seem affected by his weight he still plays and gets into all kinds of trouble. I have 3 cats and am catsitting 2 others at this time. They have a diet of wet and dry food. I keep a automatic feeder out all day filled with dry food for them to munch on as well as feed them wet cat food normally. All the other cats are very healthy in weight. None of them are "obese" they are filled out perfectly just enough and are very firm and sleek. Sesshomaru on the other hand has a very full face but a super tiny body! I can feel his ribs and spine easily and his hips are really pronounced I don't know what to do! My vet didn't seem worried since he hasn't been neutered yet but I can't seem to shake the uneasiness I feel.... I've got a appointment setup with a feline specialist to have him looked at as well as neutered but I was hoping someone may have some tips on how to fattened him up or any words of wisdom to lessen my guilt!! I love him so much I've had him since he was 3 weeks old and I'm so scared!

I don't have any idea why your kitty is so skinny but I'm glad you're going to a feline specialist because if he truly is skin and bones then something is absolutely wrong! Could be a thyroid problem. Hang in there, you're doing the right thing! hug

Thanks so much for responding I hope this Dr. can actually tell me something ^_^ Think he'll gain some weight once he's fixed? I've waited this long because I wanted to breed him, now I'm regretting it...

your kitty just might be a tiny one like lady is. lady was 1.2 pounds when I got her, she is going on 13yrs old and has never weighed more than 6.5 pounds. trust me, she can be one mean little kitty when she wants to be. I can also feel her ribs and spine. As long as everything is normal, eat, drinking, peeing, pooping, playing not too worry, and enjoy.
