Bei Bei is four months old and a feral I've been in the process of rehoming from the wilds of my backyard. In the midst of getting him ready for the transition he became ill, and has been at the vet's since Monday on IV fluids and antibiotics. He had a fever of unknown origin, possibly viral, and now has an extremely distended lymph node in his neck. High fever, lethargic, not eating. White count only moderately elevated. Liver and kidney function normal today.

He's being treated with two antibiotics, doxycycline and another that's one of the 24-hr antibiotics. Fluids. But his fever is stubborn; went down to 102.7 yesterday afternoon but back up to 104.8 last night and 104-ish today.

No one can quite figure out what's causing my baby boy to be so ill. Negative for FeLV and FiV. No enteric issues. No respiratory issues.

Any ideas about this? The vet is giving steroids today to try to bring down the fever and make him more comfortable. I just want my baby boy well and home again.

Did your vet do a CBC and Wellness blood panel, and send it to Antech? Turnaround is 24 hrs. The advantage of doing this, is they have specialists there, that help your vet with diagnosis and treatment, and can recomend other tests. If not, I would insist on it, or ask to be sent to an internal medicine specialist, which is who would be helping your vet, if you had the blood panel sent to Antech. big grin

This is what my vet would of done, day 1, and she has done it, and been right on the phone with the internal medicine specialist, they saved her life, my kitty, not the vets. big grin

Took one of my kitties in yesterday, with an unknown illness, on an ER basis, because he did not eat his supper or his breakfast. First thing she did, was an x-ray, sent blood panel to Antech, and gave him sub q fluids. They diagnosed his issue, put him on the right meds, and he is feeling much better today, and eating all this breakfast and supper. big grin

Best of luck. way to go

Wow! I can't believe so many friends are having the same issues. I had this problem last week and I feel better. I have also seen other people post these signs. It has to be some virus going around!

Bumpurr, they've done several CBCs now, I think the latest one early this afternoon as far as I know. I have no idea about Antech -- I hadn't heard of them until now. I'll ask when I speak to the vet in the morning.

I think the vet is pretty frustrated that they can't really come up with a firm diagnosis. I just hope my baby boy can turn the corner very soon. Definitely will mention Antech -- is this a service all vets can access?

Just had to add -- the vet just called; he was checking up on the furbabies and said Mr. Bei Bei ate more than half his kibble and his nictitating membranes are nearly receded!!!

My sunshine boy may have turned the corner. You can do it, Bei Bei! I am ready for you to come home!!

Bei Bei is home and healthy and raring to go! We still don't know what exactly had infected him, but he just needed some time to muster his body's forces and overcome it.

Thank you for all the comments -- we both appreciate it.
