Cat Health > Fur falling off

Well I know it's not fleas....it's too dry here in Calgary. Mommy hasn't seen a flea in over 13 years now (since she moved from the west coast), but dry skin is a possibility. I've always had dry skin, but never so much to cause bald spots. Mommy will see what she can do about that. Hopefully that's all it is smile

Cat Health > Fur falling off

So it's in the middle of winter and snowing like crazy out here in Calgary, and yet the craziest thing has been happening. Instead of getting all fluffy for the winter, mom has noticed bald spots. It almost looks as though I've been shaved, as there are no injury spots, my skin is of natural color, mom has not noticed 'excessive grooming', and everything else seems completely normal, but I'm getting these bald spots.

Any ideas?

Bombay > Am I A Bombay Cat?

a bombay kitty was originally an american shorthaired, bred together with a burmese in the early 50's to create a "panther" look. Through a long process of inbreeding and outcrossing and careful selection, was able to consistently produce a black cat unlike any other.

Cat Health > sick kitty friend!

Thanks for all your responses, but I'm sad to say that Kitty Friend was put down yesterday.
When her Mommy got home, she couldn't even stand up.
She was due for a second vet visit in 2 days to check if she had stage 1 or stage 2 leukiemia, but unfortunatley, she didn't make it.

My mommy is trying to create a memorial page for dear Kola, but Kola's mommy is still mourning, and isn't ready to give up any pictures yet.

Maybe in a few days, I'll keep you posted.

Kitty friend is sick with feline leukemia. Her Mommy is going to school full time and is concerned about $$$.

She's been told that putting kitty down is the only option cause it's the cheapest.

Her Mommy loves her baby very much and is looking for the cheapest, most effective way for treatments. There's a huge list and it keeps growing.
echinacea, astragalus, ganoderma mushrooms, interferon, prednisone, doxycycline, immunoregulin, staphylococcus protein A, and much more.

She's going in for more tests in a couple of days, so we'll find out more info then.

But for now, we're wondering if there are more little kitties out there with leukemia that have good outcomes. This poor mommy needs all the support she can get!!!!

Cat Health > I know this sounds weird but... what kind of cat am I?

Bombay Breeds typically have black fur that glows "silver" in the light to give it a "panther" look. Pure Breds have Golden/Orange eyes that are set wide and it's face is typically set very wide...unlike a siamese whom have very long faces.
Their ears are set wide apart and it's eyes usually has a 'surprised' look. Bombays are typically medium-sized cats and are muscular. It should be heavier than their size.
The leather on their paws and nose is all black
The Bombay cat is actually a cross breed of an American Shorthair and Burmese.

Anytime Mommy gets a new kitty, she reads extensivly into any possible breeds, and since I came all black, she read up on Bombays. I'm obviously not a pure bred, cause my face is long and I have a couple of white hairs on my belly that should disappear when I get older, but I have the golden eyes and the fur!
The colored hairs usually means that I've carried a recessive gene of a white kitty.

You look like a Bombay, but definatly crossed with something else.

Cat Health > Low Body Temperature

I was due for my booster anyway, so mommy took me in today.
The vet said that the cold body temperature was due to laying on the floor all day (basement).
She said that I am healthy, just a degree cooler than I should be. There's really nothing Mommy or me can do. shrug

Cat Health > Low Body Temperature

Mommy started noticing in the last week or so that my body temperature has dropped. When she picks me up, I feel very, very cold until she hugs me. I've also been whining and meowing a lot more, and my meow has started to sound a little "raspy".
Mommy is having a difficult time in telling if I'm eating or not, cause there's three of us and she free feeds us. But when she does see me eat, it's not very much.

Other than that, I'm pretty active still, and I cuddle at night time like normal, and my nose isn't running and I'm not sneezing.

Am I sick?

Cat Health > How do i stop my kitten eating the older cats food?

Malibu

I dunno if we were lucky, or if it didn't make a difference, but when Kimba and I were babies, Mommy tried to feed us kitten food, but when we tasted adult food, we refused to touch the kitten stuff.

Mom eventually gave in and let us eat the adult food cause there were five other adult cats in the house at the time and mom simply free-fed us.
We both had a check-up about 3 weeks ago and the vet said that we're VERY VERY healthy.

So from personal experience, the adult food didn't really have a negative effect on us, other than the fact that Kimba is slightly small in size for her age.
