A play pen is something I've been looking for, but no luck on an affordable one yet. It could be a child's as she'd be supervised when she was in it. I could come up with a lid. Once the vet clears her to not be contagious, I'll be redoubling my efforts to find one so she can get safe exposure to her (much larger) sisters. wink Thanks!

Thanks for the suggestions and stories!

A collar won't work because of the positioning of where she's got open skin... I'd asked about that in the beginning. I WISH it would though! smile

She's got a window near the end of the cage and I open the blinds during the day so she can see outside. And she's still small enough to have plenty of room to bounce around.

She's made amazing strides these last couple of weeks. The antibiotic seems to be finally kicking the URI (hopefully) and the Neosporine is doing wonders for her healing. Fingers and paws crossed the vet estimate of six months is wrong! Hoping she'll be out and playing with her sisters before Christmas!!

She will still be caged when I'm at work or asleep as I worry about the fact she just LOVES to bite things and I don't know if she'd know not to nibble on cords. Never had a kitten and none of the adult cats ever showed any interest in biting stuff.

And Icebox, you're not broken down... you're beautiful and that's enough! smile

It most definitely would have Gracie! A cast would be easier to deal with and quicker to heal. But I know lots and lots are purring for her and she's a determined little thing.

Don't know if this is the kind of voting this was intended to have... but my family and I are all entered in this year's contest. Please check out our pictures and vote for us?

Here's my page. The family has links at the bottom of it.

Gracie, her leg isn't broken. The elbow was dislocated and healed so she can't straighten the leg, but she can bend it up to her chest. And she can't be bandaged because she has to have compresses every day and get cream applied. Someday, when the area isn't so large, maybe some type of bandage can be used short term, but that area getting smaller is months away. Glad the doggie with the cast was ok!

Huddle's mom, I make sure to go back there several times a day, other than to get her for her compresses, and let her in my lap. She stretches up to my shoulder and rubs her head on my neck and face. I've had kitten nose prints on my glasses many times... lol! I do hope that is a help for her.

Gaia is about 3 months old. I've had her since she was about 1 month. If you look at her page and read her story, you'll see she's had a rough start and is lucky to be alive.

With her leg/chest in the condition it is and a persistent upper respiratory infection, she can't be around my other girls. Also, her staying loose in the bedroom isn't an option. She's like a little dust mop it seems and too much dust/fur/lint/whatever gets under her arm. I don't want any irritants on her that might prevent her healing.

At the moment, her elbow is having the hardest time keeping enough... it's not skin... the vet calls it granulation tissue... it's where the skin is growing back. Anyway, the elbow bleeds easily and her running around makes it worse. Yet another reason she can't be left loose in a large room.

She's in a large cage. 3 or 4 feet long, 2 wide, 2 tall... approximately. I'm realizing how long she's going to have to be in that thing. It's going to take 6 months, or more, for her to heal, provided no other issues interfere. She's already spent 2 months confined and, I worry, she's missing out on kittenhood.

Has anyone had to confine their young kitten or cat for an extended period of time? Is this going to affect her in the future? I do get her out and let her play in the bathroom, which I can more easily keep clean and watch her, but it's small so there's no running/jumping. She loves to do both. Also, I can't let her play long as her elbow starts bleeding. I know this HAS to be done, but is it going to cause any issues later? I'll already have the issue of introducing her to her sisters (they're not overly thrilled about how I smell coming from the back of the house as it is... nor with losing their bedroom) so I want to know if there's anything else I need to prepare for.

The mommy.
