We've been thinking about you a lot today Tyler. I haven't stopped purring for you since I heard you weren't feeling well and will keep it at full volume until you're back to your boombastic ways! I hope today is a better day for both you and your mum. You're both in our thoughts and purrs.

Hugs & Loud Rusty Purrs,
Sally Maria

What a wonderful idea! Trinity and I will be there too! The weather has been so gloomy and yucky that this will make a great pick me up.

Thanks for the invite Guido and Baci! dancing

Saying Goodbye: Memorials & Support > how do you stay strong?

Ludo's mum, we are so sorry that you had to make this decision. I know how you feel. Just the thought of losing Sally is more than I can bear. With her age and all of her health issues, each day that I spend with her just brings us nearer to the day when I'll have to let her go. It brings tears to my eyes just thinking about it now.

I know some people say that your cat lets you know when they're ready to go but I don't totally agree. I think it's more of a realization that there's nothing more you can do for them except to give them the ultimate loving gift: to be released from pain and to let their weary little bodies rest. We all know how determined and stubborns cats can be. I think a lot of times they hold out a lot longer than they might have just so they don't have to leave their loved ones. I feel like Ludo is one of those cats.

You don't have to be strong. You are saying good bye to your best friend and that is devastating whether they are animal or human. Enjoy your time with him, pet him and love him and tell him how much he means to you. We will pray for peace and comfort for both of you.

Hugs & Sad Purrs,
Sally Maria & mama Kristi

Get Well Soon > I Have Congestive Heart Failure=(

Hi Duncan! I have been through what you're going through and I know how scary it can be.

I was diagnosed with HCM when I was only a year old. I've been taking meds for it since I was 2 and have done pretty well. Last April I was diagnosed with intestinal lymphoma and given Prednisone and a chemo drug to fight it. Unfortunately the Prednisone caused my lungs to fill with fluid and mama rushed me to the ER with CHF. Like you, I spent time in an oxygen cage and was given lots of Lasix but it worked and I felt good enough to go home. Three weeks later it happened again. More time in the oxygen cage and a visit to the cardiologist followed. In addition to the HCM I also have a leaky mitral valve. I was given another med to take with my Lasix and Diltiazem. I have been doing very well since then.

A couple things to look out for: Heart kitties should NEVER take steroids like Prednisone. One of their side effects is fluid retention and it can be dangerous for us. Also, if you're getting fluids for CRF, they'll have to be watched closely.

Lasix will make you VERY thirsty so make sure your pawrents leave you enough water. It can also be hard on your kidneys, as can other heart meds, so they'll need to be watched.

If you don't already see an internal medicine vet or a cardiologist, you should. They are the best for knowing which meds you should be taking and can keep an eye on your heart and how it's working.

It sounds like your pawrents are taking very good care of you. CHF is a scary thing, but it can be managed so you can still have a nice life. I'm proof of that! There are a couple of groups on Catster for heart kitties, one of them is Heart to Heart. There's lots of good info there and all the kitties and pawrents know what you're going through. Mama and I have learned a few things from my own experiences and we'd be happy to share them if you're interested. We'd be happy to help you any way we can!

Keep us posted on how you're doing. We'll be purring for you brave boy!

Purrs,
Sally Maria

Purrs of love and support to all the kitties on this list.

I am heartbroken to hear that Shep will be going to the Bridge today. He has been such a brave boy and such a fighter. He has given my mama and I hope in our fight against the same disease. I will be purring my hardest that his journey is a peaceful one and for comfort for his mommy during this devasting time.

Hugs & Very Sad Purrs,
Sally Maria
