Behavior & Training > NEVER adopt a declawed cat (?)
Sarge

Hey you, pay- attention to me!

Purred: Wed Sep 23, '09 7:25pm PST
NO NO NO!! My old family had me declawed all the way around. Then they had to give me up. We don't know why. I waited for 6 months before my new Daddy came and took me home. He knows what an awesome cat I am. We hang out a lot. I greet him when he comes up. At night when he's in bed, I'll sit next to him and rub his head. The idea that I should be put down because of what some silly human did is crazy. Some cats might think they're less of a cat without claws, but I more than make up for them. My vet fears me more than my youngest sister who's fully armed. way to go

Rescue, Adoption & Happy Endings > Don\'t give up hope!

My foster Daddy tried to get me adopted for 6 months before he decided to keep me (just like I planned all along). Yeah, it's hard for black kitties to get adopted. It didn't help that I was very territorial and hissed at any other kitty and person I saw.

Behavior & Training > Do cats love? Humans, that is?

Sarge

Hey you, pay- attention to me!

Well what is love? We give our cats food and shelter. We clean up after them, protect them from danger, play with them, and show them affection. We do it because we love them. If we didn't do those things, would we deserve to be loved in return? If you adopted a human child and didn't do those things, we would be asked if we loved him/her. So there can be no question on whether we love our felines.

Now do felines love us? Think of how they'd act if we didn't show we loved them. Instead they like our company. They sleep with us (or near us) at night. They look forward to seeing us when we get home from work. They purr and try to declare us "theirs". That's love. Just because they can't show it the same way doesn't mean they don't feel that emotion.

Congrats on your new kitty! Thanks so much for adopting an adult disabled cat. I'm sure he's very happy to have a home and love after everything that's happened to him. Thanks for showing him that humans can be good too. We look forward to the pictures!

Rescue, Adoption & Happy Endings > Adoptted out princess- happy ending, but how can i cope?
Pepi

I read Princess's page. You're one of the best things that ever happened in her life. You literally saved her life and that's something to be proud of. Now you found her a proper home where she'll get the love she needs. I know you feel sad, I would too, but realize you did a great thing. I hope you can stay in contact with Princess and see how she gets along. (Also I suggest talking to the local animal control about those other parents. Those kids don't know any better and they ARE responsible for what they do.)

Behavior & Training > getting discouraged with foster-to-hopefully-adopt

Pepi

I think you're expecting too much from Boop. I'm not a lap kitty either. I'm still young and have lots of energy. You should let Boop settle down and be herself. She may not be a lap cat or hang around when you eat, but that doesn't mean she can't love you and be part of your family.

Right now as her foster, you should be getting her socialized for someone to adopt her. You may be the one to give her a furever home, or it may be someone else right? See how that goes first please. Help her be a good cat (using the litterbox, not attacking people at random, not being mean, being comfortable around people, etc) so she can be adoptable. Then you can decide if she's the cat for you.

My Daddy had doubts too in the beginning. He likes lap cats and to have us around as company. I like to play and hate being held. But he loves me just as much as the other cats and he accepts me for who I am. I refused to live anywhere else. (I was a little terror at the adoption shows and made it very clear what I wanted. red face )

Behavior & Training > Really pawsome toys/cat trees?

Pepi

Yeah! I has- home!

Purred: Sun Aug 9, '09 6:10pm PST
Well we really don't need expensive toys to consider something our pawsomest favorite toy. Mine is a laser pointer (he bought the batteries in bulk off amazon). Second is a kitty fishing pole. The lure on the pole needs replacing every few months. I'm way to rough with it MOL. Also more than once Daddy whipped the pole back and forth so hard the lure broke off.

I think the most expensive "toy" we need is a scratching post. If you want to get something special, a simple cat tree with a sleeping platform at window height would be great (assuming your kitty is armed and can climb up there). But the most important think you can spend on your kitty is time.

Behavior & Training > Someone is missing the litterbox

Sarge

Hey you, pay- attention to me!

Actually Daddy think he might have solved the problem. The downstairs litterbox is in a small recess at the bottom of the stairs about 3 feet wide and 1.5 feet deep. That may not be enough room for bigger kitties to stand in when we do our business. Our heads are against the wall. So Daddy turned it 45 degrees so we have more room and so far there hasn't been a problem. Thank goodness.

I do poorly at the vet. Even though I'm disarmed the vet is still afraid of me. wink I hiss and growl when it's time for a check up. Pepi is much better behaved even though she's fully armed.

Lately somecat has been missing the litterbox when they have to do #1. There's an effort, the puddle is always on the edge of the box and on the mat around it. Daddy's not sure who's doing it. Last night he cleaned up around the box, had the mat washed, cleaned the pan itself and rim, swept and mopped up where the mat was, and finally replaced the litter. But this morning when he passed by he could see a wet spot on the mat.

Do boy cats or girl cats have more trouble when it comes to this? Daddy recently got a kitty drinking fountain and since then he's had the problem. But the timing does not mean there's a connection (but it could).

Right now the pan is in a corner near some walls. Is it possible that it's too close to the walls and pulling it out some will fix it? What else can be done? We don't want to go to the vet until we're pretty sure who's doing it (otherwise it would mean 2 of us went when we didn't have to).
