Cat Health > Personality changes on hyperthyroid hormone?

I was really sad when Sassy first went on the hormone and she started sleeping all of the time. The vet said she was just acting her age (14 at the time), and it just seemed extreme after being used to her in a constant hyper state (running around all night long with toys and howling). After a few weeks she leveled out and started to play again, but not as extreme as before. She gets tested every six months and she has been fine for the last two years. The last time she was tested I was worried because she had been even more playful than usual and I thought she needed her dosage increased, but she was just fine. Maybe your boy is on too high a dosage, or maybe he is just acting his age. It might seem like he is better off playing and acting like a kitten, but to a 15 year old cat it might actually be exhausting. Imagine an 85 year old human who is constantly running around like a 15 year old and can not calm down. Give him a pat from us!

Hi, I am happy to read that Aura is feeling better! I just saw that you were afraid to tell the vet that pinky mice were they only thing she wanted to eat...please always give the vet all info possible, even if you are afraid. The missing piece of information that the vet needs could be the one thing you are afraid to say. The vet knows you love your cat...you wouldn't have been so worried if you didn't!

Phoebe was a feral I brought in when she was around a year, but she was so malnourished I thought she was a couple months. I have had her for about six years now and she is still changing and doing new things all the time. I think it ca take years for a rescued cats whole personality to shine through.

Oh! Be careful with mattes because they can be painful. The fur gets pulled every time the cat moves when it is tangled.

Hi There! I would suggest getting some Feliway spray to help calm her down. My Phoebe once had a very traumatic incident when I was not home and she would not come out of the corner for weeks. I think some kids outside either threw a ball at the window or a bird flew into it. She was afraid of everything in the house except the other cats and me. I was completely freaked out and kept checking on her all the time and I think that made it worse. I had to calm down and just let her be and she did recover in her own time. The Feliway spray helped. For awhile though, I thought my curious happy cat was gone forever. Your baby might also not be feeling well if she does have a UTI and that is adding to her stress. I know it is hard but try not to keep checking on her, and act as you normally would. I'm sure that once she sees that you are not upset she will calm down. I know some people use Rescue Remedy drops in their cats water to help calm them. I am surprised the vet won't just extract urine rather than having her wait all day. That is what mine always does. Good luck and Phoebe will be purring for you both!

Yes, having Mommy do it herself would be ideal but it is not an option folks MOL. Mom clips the other cats nails with no problem...and some of them are wild feral girls! But I am another story. She has been touching my feet and trying to get me used to it for 8 years now and it just isn't going to happen. I have big Maine Coon paws with fur in the middle. By the time she locates the first claw I have already started the growling and attacking. On the other hand, when the vet techs clip them I just pretend to be a hedgehog and they pull one leg out at a time no problem.

I just wanted to know how much is average, Mom was shocked at $19 because our good old vet was much cheaper!! Thanks!

I was wondering what other folks pay for a nail clipping. We used to pay $10 at our old vet, then we moved down south and they charge $19 at our new vet!! That seems pretty steep to Mom. We were just wondering what other folks pay. I know it is $15 at Petsmart but for some reason Mom doesn't trust them.
