Many purrayers going out to you...One of my nicknames was Stringbean because I was so skinny...I see Mom crying as she is typing for me....

I had the dry form of FIP and left Mom at 4.5 years of age....I was tested for it when I had my eye removed 8 months before I made the journey..

My brofur and littermate Midnight tested positive for the corona virus but it has never mutated into FIP and he turned 9 in July....We shared everything our entire life (we were supposed to grow old together)...He has never been sick his entire life other than an infected toothie....

As some of the others have said chances of your brofurs and sisfurs getting FIP are very slim..They will most likely show as corona virus positive but it will never mutate into full blown FIP...

I purray that you remain comfy and when the times comes to make the journey ( hopefully not too soon) it will be peaceful knowing how very much you are loved...

Sorry to be so long getting back to you..Thanks Sootball...mom checked that out as well as several other products and had posed the question several other places and did lots of research and finally ended up with Terro liquid ant bait..Its main ingredient is boric acid..It seemed to do the job since the ants have disappeared...The hardest part was not klilling them after they ate the bait and letting them go back to their colony..It took about 3 days...

I am sorry to say that due to the recent wet weather our kitchen has been invaded by teeny tiny ants..Mom will not use any commercial product on them because she does not want me to get sick..she knows that cinnamon is safe for me but it does not seem to be working..Anyone else have any other NATURAL safe remedies for ants...Mom is going to super clean the entire kitchen in clorox tomorrw and hopefully get rid of them...

Cat Health > Teeth cleaning/possible extraction

Midnight Son

Purred: Tue Jun 2, '09 7:25am PST
I had mine cleaned and one extracted last year about this time...I went in around 8 and came home a little after 6....Mom got to see the dental room and it was very efficient...When Dr Steve put me under..(after my blood work came back that it was ok)..I was positioned on a heated padded backboard with sides just the right size for a kitty so that I would not move and injure myself or take a chill....
He usesd an injected anesthesia that he was able to reverse slowly so that I woke up slowly rather than suddenly...
Of course mom was worried about me but I Came out of it fine and I carry the corona virus....So my health is always a concern for Mom...

If the Vet gives you an additive for your water. Please read the ingredients before using it and ask questions..I was givenC.E.T AquaDent and the third ingredient is xylitol..It is a sugar substitue and posonious to dogs....the effects on cats it not known so Mom stopped giving me the additive..Besides I did not like it and refused to to drink the water with it in..

Xylitol is a sugar substitute which is found in sugarless chewing gum, sugarless candies and can be purchased in packets and containers to be used in the kitchen. It can also be found in some oral health products (mouthwashes, etc) and in some pharmaceuticals, including certain oral vitamin supplements and throat lozenges.

In humans, xylitol is apparently fairly innocuous. However, in dogs xylitol can cause a rapid release of insulin which leads to dangerously low blood glucose (blood sugar) levels in a very short period of time. This effect is known as hypoglycemia.

Xylitol is a potent poison for dogs. In cats, no xylitol poisonings have been reported to date and the effect of xylitol on cats remains unknown.
Hopefully this link will work...

I eat the Wysong vitality dry food and love it...there have been no recalls that Mom knows of and she trusts the company..I also get Wysong Archetype as a bed time snack and Mom uses Wysong Add Life on my food when I get in a finicky mood....It is a good product...

Jerome's Mom..

Thanks for the support...Sadly we have to learn these things the hard way...I have become an advocate for my Midnight and I question everything Dr Steve does for him and he understands where I am coming from and works with me....

When D-Max was gettting sick more often and I saw the shorter and shorter term results of the steroids I began to question them and then after the FIP ( dry form) diagnosis I really got to thinking about what I had done to my baby...

Dr Steve at the time was taking a course in Acupuncture as an alternative way to help his patients and D-Max was a class project study for him....He got acupuncture every 2 weeks and then every month and each time Dr Steve consulted with his instructors and YES..there were positive results..I saw a happier more energetic D-Max after the treatments and they lasted longer than the steroids once he got started on them and his system centered...He would know when we were going for his treatment and after the needles were inserted he would just relax on the table and purr while they did their thing...

I still carry a lot of guilt and what ifs but I have finally come to realize that I did the best I could with the knowledge I had at the time and that D-Max has taught me much not only about alternative ways to treat an illness but he has made me a much better person..I feel him with me every day .....

To anyone with an FIP diagnosis my thoughts and prayers are with you....The more you read the less you know and understand...

D-Max's Mom here...

I am so sorry ....FIP is a horrid disease..I also wonder how the shelter came up with an FIP diagnosis so quickly unless they have other cats that had it....There is no definite test for FIP in your other cats...Chances are they will test positive for the corona virus but never get the full blown FIP....

Do not get them the FIP Vaccine..It does not work and it will only further weaken the immune system and cause stress in them..Stress is a trigger for the corona virus to mutate to FIP....

I would thorougly clean all areas with bleach...

D-Max carried the corona virus and was sickly his entire life...I fed him high quality food and I know I will get blasted for saying this but I am going to tell you from my experience..When he was sick he was given steroids..They made him feel better but in my opinion they only made the FIP come back stronger and shortened his life span...After the diagnosis he lived almost a year and I also stopped all routine vaccinations for him...

He has a litter mate and brother Midnight who carries the corona virus but has never ben sick from it..they lived together and shared everything their entire life..He will be 9 this summer....

There is an FIP Group here on Catster you might want to check out....

Please do not give a narcotic without proper supervision by a qualified Vet ...The dosages are so much different than for humans...and reactions can be fatal....

An alternative that is safe and natural is Rescue Remedy..It can be found at the health food store..Rub some on your hands and massage the mouth and nose area as well as the top of the head while speaking in a quiet calming voice..You can also put a few drops in the drinking water...

Feliway in the room is also a calming agent for nervous cats..It can be found at the better pet food stores..It comes as a spray or a plug in....

and as always a vet check is in order to rule out a medical condition
