Hello everyone. I was diagnosed this week with heart disease. cry The cardiologist said this is a problem with the breed. He has seen mostly F1's, but I am an F2. Doesn't mean everyone will have it, but you might want to consider being screened. He said my siblings should definitely be screened, but I don't know how to contact them. We contacted the breeder, but he has not responded which makes us angry. Anyway we don't want to scare anyone, but we wanted to make you aware.

There is a certain breeder that has propagated bad lines of bengals with HCM. It isn't necessary "a problem with the breed" it is a problem with the breeder. That line should be screened for HCM and all breeding stock should be evaluated by a board certified cardiologist yearly. HCM is prevelent among bengals and some breeders have heavily used bengals in their program. I can pretty much guess where your cat came from. I am sorry it has happened to you. My friends cat walked in the door and dropped dead. He was 11 months old. On a good note, there are many savannahs that don't have heart issues and breeders are aware and are screening.
