I noticed more kitties here take Leukeran. My vet says they both do the same thing so I could have either. He thought cyclophosphamide is a smaller pill and would be easier for mum to get in me. What do you guys think? Does anyone take these pills in a snack? Do they taste awful? Does either cost a lot more?

Mama gives me my Leukeran late at night, at least a couple of hours after my evening heart meds. She did this in the beginning to make sure that if the Leukeran made me barf, that I only lost it and not a bunch of other pills too.

Plus, I always get a little snack of my favorite Ocean Whitefish to make sure that my tummy isn't empty when I take it.

I only take half a pill at a time so it's pretty small. I haven't had any trouble with it in the year and a half I've taken it. Sometimes it upsets my tummy but it's usually the night that I don't take it. Go figure... Pepcid twice a day helps with that though.

I don't know about the other, but Leukeran is a little on the pricey side. Mama pays $55 for 15 pills, but this works out to be a two month supply for me. She gets it filled at Walmart. Target and Costco are pretty good places to check too. If you wind up taking Leukeran, just make sure that the pharmacy keeps it in the refrigerator. VERY important. Mama's never had any trouble but has heard that other people have.

I know that Miss Mittens takes something other than Leukeran but mama can't remember the name of it (she can barely remember all my meds!) It might be cyclophosphamide but I'm not sure.

How are you doing? Are you feeling any better?

How are you feeling Misha?

I take 25 mg. cyclophosphamide (aka Cytoxan) twice a week. It's a blue pill that is larger than the usual pills for cats but mommy does manage to get it down my throat! Unlike Leukeran, it doesn't need to be kept refrigerated or given as often.

As for the cost, it seems to vary each time mommy gets the prescription filled. A one month's supply (8 pills) generally costs around $40-$45. It would probably cost more your mommy more if you get the pills from the vet and it's probably best that your mommy have your vet write a prescription so she have it filled at a pharmacy that has the best price.

I have been on this treatment for almost 2 weeks: Leukeran 3x a week. Predisolone 5x a week. I am supposed to get the predisolone everyday but mum wants to see what is does to my sugar before she ups it. It could mess up my diabetes which is under control with diet and glipizide. I take more pills then my olde furt mum frown
I have not noticed a change in the way I am feeling except I eat a little more at a time now. I used to only eat a couple of bites. Now I eat about a quarter of a can of my diabetes cat food. If mum gives me a can of fancy feast sometimes I eat the whole can smile I am still bony on my back and my fur looks scruffy.(Don't tell the lady cats that)
