Hey pupsters. Mama has finally gotten around to reading this book which was on your reading list before we joined Dogster. It's been a rough read. The subject matter is infuriating and Adam's decision to write in the Geordie dialect is challenging. I know it was a long time ago for most of you, but what were your thoughts on this book?

Mama says that Mr Adams is a really good writer. He gets you all worried about what's going to happen to the dogs in his story. He shows all the people working behind the scenes and how all of their actions affect what happens to the dogs. Then he dangled a carrot 37 pages from the end, and she said that was very very frustrating and she just had to holler. She finished the book though, and says that if your mom hasn't read it, and you think she can make it through the descriptions of all the experiments, and if you think she won't be totally annoyed by Adams' use of the Geordie dialect in much of the story, and if she liked Adams' writing in Watership Down (gee that's lots of 'ifs') that your mama should try it Cos.wink

Wow Dillon,

You tired me out with all those "if" items.

I've been rereading parts of Born Without A Tail and its very rewarding. Like the first time. And I have no "ifs" about it.

Wags and woofs,
Dafi

I had a hard time reading some parts of this book but in the end I loved it. Some books are challenging but worth it. I say give it a try.

Well, Mom will try it. She read Watership Down about three hundred years ago and could take it or leave it..not crazy about fantasy. But Plague Dogs sounds worth reading. Mom says she'll get it on the library request list, she's reading Nora Ephron's "I Hate my Neck" book first. Personally, I love my neck....people are always scratching it for me! laugh out loudlaugh out loudlaugh out loudlaugh out loud

Yeah, mom didn't love Watership Down either. It was ok. We like fantasy but it has to be a story that catches our imagination. Right now mom is reading the Chronicles of Narnia, which has lots of talking animals but is more of a good vs evil kind of fantasy. Plague Dogs is fantasy of a sort but is based in the horrible reality of animal experimentation. We'll be interested in your thoughts on it. thinking

Oh we're going to order it now. The "I Hate My Neck" book is short. Nora Ephron is a riot and this book is about women and aging, which is VERY appropriate topic for my Mom! laugh out loudlaugh out loudlaugh out loudlaugh out loud
