Which dogs out there are on Phenobarb as well as Kbr?

If you are on both, what has been your experience?

Since Duncan started the Kbr (after already beeing on Phenobarb) he has been experiencing pretty severe ataxia. We lowered the Phenobarb, but have not been able to eliminate it. So, now he is our drunk and retarded dog. he runs into things, falls over, and when he sleeps you have to check for breathing, since he always seems dead.

Charlie is on both phenobar and Potassium Bromide and gabapentin for his seizures. he is very clumsy and drunk after seizure, takes him a while to come out of it, even days after he falls on the floor alot and i have to pick him up and he does not like that, he kinda growls and is ashamed that he cant get up, this is after i had given him more pheno after seizures, and than he feels so much better the next day or 2.

how long has he been on them both?
I take both, have for almost 3 years. we have redused the phenobarb down to where it does not even show in blood tests, but cant remove it all together.
I was like that for about 1 month before I adjusted to my current levels. and aside from some weight gain, and I`m a little stiff getting up after I have been sleeping I`m fine.

please dont call your pup retarded. he cant help it.
but bless you for keeping him and not dumping him cuz he is a special needs pup

Oh, we don't mean the "retard" part as a bad thing. His nickname is the handi-tard dog. People see him and go, what is wrong with him? It is easier to joke about it than get upset and cry, cause it kills me to see him like this.

Duncan has been on the phenobarb for 2-1/2 years, the Kbr for almost one year (in Sept). He didn't get the drunken movements until we mixed the two meds. We tried to remove the Phenobarb, but we hit 5mg twice daily and he started seizing daily. But, he has not had a seizure for quite some time now, a few months, so we will try dropping the phenobarb again.

The problem is that he is still seizing from time to time, and his phenobarb was over therapeutic levels for a dog his size, and so is the Kbr. The phenobar is within levels now, but I want to get rid of it cause it is causing the ataxia.

We can't even run an obedience course without being the laughing stock of the audience, never mind the agility that he so badly wants to do! I can't let him on anything that goes more than 6" off the ground, cause he is guaranteed to fall off! And he loves the teeter and dog walk!

Took Zoey quite a while to adjust to her last dose increase. She takes pheno and Kbb, she sleeps more. Can't get rid of the pheno thou as we hit a point and I have hit the same point 6 times in the last year and she start seizing.
