Want to brag about your horse, or maybe let off a little steam because he is driving your crazy? Here's the place.

If you want to post a pic in the thread and don't know how I'll leave a link at the bottom of the page where you just have to paste in the direct code from photobucket or another site that gives the codes and give it a name and then create the code and copy and paste that in the thread post. It will make a link for your pic. If I've confused you just give me a shout and I'll try to help.

way to go

Mom was going to put a picture of Chief up and then realized that they were on the other computer and she needs to go take some new ones of him. Maybe I can get her to go out tomorrow with the camera.

Chief actually had his nose on the local news once. We had a problem with natural gas bubbling out of the ground a while back due to a mishap with a new well they were drilling several miles away. The news people came to get some pictures of the creek bubbling up arout 3 ft in the air and they had to walk through the horse pasture to get there. The horses of course were curious and came over and Chief put his nose up to the microphone the cameraman had. The man then turned the camera on chief's nose as it got closer and closer. When they ran the news story they ended it with Chief's nose homing in on the camera lens. So he had his 5 seconds of famelaugh out loud

Yeah for Chief! applause Way to go! way to go

Is Sweets an Arab?

Senator (his pic is in the group's pics at the bottom of the page) was blessed by a Catholic priest. I'm not Catholic, but one of the boarders in our small private barn was very Catholic and she asked her priest if he would come out and bless the horses in the barn. So he did and as he walked down the aisle, blessing the horses in their stalls, I stood outside Senator's stall to make sure his head was over the stall door and watching. As the priest flicked holy water in every horse's direction I watched as one drop flew across the aisle and landed right on Senator's nose! laugh out loud

I've always wondered if actually being "annointed" with holy water is what helped Senator live to 30 years old. little angel

You never know it might have helped.

I think Sweets is part Arab. We got her at a general livestock auction so we don't know much about her past. They said she was 5 yrs old and looking at her teeth we think that was about right. She was so thin and scared when we got her. I found an old picture I had taken when we unloaded her that first day and you wouldn't even know it was the same horse. I've always thought she had the cutest head. It sure looks Arab.

I had a few people ask if Senator was an Arab. His head was kind of small and refined, but he had big jowls -- must have been going back to the Steeldust line. One person asked if he was a Morgan (from the old line).

Is there any breed that you would like to try out? I would like to try a Morgan and a Saddlebred. (Of course, I haven't ridden since my back operation, so I don't know if I ever could, again).

Morgans do have cute heads too. I don't really know much about Morgans. We got an older gelding for the grandkids to show in 4-H
several years ago. They said he was QH but had no papers. He had a fairly nice head like that, refined but with the big jaw and really gentle looking eyes. He had the softest most collected trot I've ever ridden. He just naturally seemed to be collected with a slight arch to his neck. I always wondered if he had some Morgan in him. He just didn't travel like a QH, he had more animation in his front legs but the trot itself was just like floating. You could barely feel when his feet touched the ground. There were actually times when I couldn't tell if he was walking fast or trotting really slow and collected. He was great with the girls, so gentle and loving. Sadly he had trouble with colic and after one surgery died after a second attack. Are Morgans normally gaited?

I would like to have a chance to ride so many horses. But I think now as I get older I would say one of the gaited breeds, maybe a Paso Fino. They aren't very tall, (good for getting on and not as far to fall offlaugh out loud) and the soft gaits would seemingly feel better on achy backs and arthritic joints.

I saw an article that said the old line Morgans are more muscular -- a copy of Justin Morgan, while the modern line is less muscular, more refinded -- like an Arab. I don't believe Morgans are gaited.

Yes, Paso Finos can be smooth, but the ones I rode weren't real smooth. Their owner used them in dog (Brittany) field trials, so they were used to lifting their legs higher to get through the bush. I did ride another Paso once. She was so smooth it felt like she was on roller skates!

This is going to show my age but do you remember the movie about Justin Morgan? I think it might have been a Disney movie.

Speaking of movies, did you ever see the movie Lady Hawk, heavens, it was probably 20 years ago. Can't believe that, seems like not that long. There was a beautiful Frisian they used in that movie. That was one horse I was dying to ride. Seeing that horse on the big screen was pawsome!
