Hi All,
Do any of you allow foster ferals to mix freely with resident cats? Due to a FeLV scare I am deathly afraid of doing so, and isolate all kitties even those that are combo tested (its not foolproof until retesting 3-4 months later anyways).

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks,

I know you posted a while back, but I just joined today... I would NOT. I figure my first responability is to my original kitties. Just that you have the new ferals in a safe well fed home even though isolated, is great, As long as you spend a small amount of time with them when you feed them and clean the boxes, you are allowing them to adjust with LESS stress because you are not there all the time! It helps the cats a bitt at a time rather than too fast! Remember to handle the cats, spraise them in a quiet gentle voice, and let them feel how you care about them, it works wonders, even in small doses! God bless you for the kind work you do!little angel

Our 2 little feral adoptees lived separately in the guest suite for 4 months, then joined the household. One of them still is a bit wary but the other one is so tame you would never guess she was feral. And they were 4 months old when we trapped and neutered them. Our older cat, nonferal, likes the girl, doesnt like the boy because he is jealous of him, but basically they all get along fine now. The separate living arrangements served them well and gave me a chance to play with them in an enclosed and safe space every day which we all enjoyed.
