I would love any advice Hunter and friends may have. Please see this thread. http://www.catster.com/forums/Cat_Health/thread/581714/1 My Mom has been really diligent about including updates of symptoms and stuff. As such, its' way to much to copy and paste into a new thread.

The basics are an 11yo indoor single furbaby who was simply "a little off" on Wednesday is now barely moving. I think he has had seizures. The vet observed these on Friday but hesitated to call them seizures cuz they were only 2-3 seconds and I remained conscious. There were no vaxes, flea or other treatments preceding this.

He has went from a pretty active guy to helpless in the space of a few days. We are going to call the vet again first thing in the morning. I'm concerned cuz the vet seems pretty sure this is a neuro issue, and she is the vet so not meaning to second guess. I guess I just wish she felt it was an inner ear problem or some other less serious and more manageable issue. The vet feels it is serious because she did bring up quality of life concerns already, and that was before he worsened over this weekend.

In the time that I've been writing this, I have witnessed 2 seizures, longer than 10 seconds. The second was pretty scary cuz he was growling and trying to attack his feet. I called our 24 hour clinic, but they can't talk meds with me legally. I want to know if I can give him a full 15mg of phenobarbital. That would be a full days dose. Currently he has had a half pill in AM and another half in the PM to get 15 total. If I do dose him that much, are there any side effects for me to be on the lookout for?

TIA

We'd love any advice or support. We will be at the vets office first thing in the morning.

Hi Mihu,

We hope you got good news from the vet and purr that you are doing better, but have no advice for you as we have never experienced anything like that.

Purrs,

Sorry I just saw this... Hopefully by now you have contacted your vet regarding the phenobarb dose. I would highly recommend seeing an internal medicine specialist. If they also feel it's a neurologic problem then seeing a neurologist may be in your future. IM specialists have alot of experience with seizuring animals and can better guide you (IMO) on proper treatments.
