 | | | | So many of these suggestions imply some time has passed but there are some things to do IMMEDIATELY!!
The following is based on what I learned from my cats who were not used to going out but snuck out nevertheless. In 4 cases (I'm ashamed to say) the ONLY way I got them back was by either searching in the dead of night with a flashlight and a favorite/familiar noise-making toy, OR by leaving the door open and music on late at night.
Jake somehow managed to get a second-floor window open and tumbled town the slanted roof (fortunately onto grass) and while I searched and searched during the day, with the help of neighbors, I went out that night at midnight, calling quietly and shining my flashlight. A soft mew came from my own backyard and a slinking body came towards me. Sammy snuck out when I left a door open -- I would NEVER think she would do that. That night it rained really hard and I knew I would never find her. The next night, knowing that is just about the most skittish cat ever, I left the door open, the lights on, and music playing, and made myself comfortable on the sofa. At 2am, she came in. She got out again a year later (I should have learned!) when I was leaving for a few days and I didn't find out until I was 800 miles away. I told the cat sitter to put food and water out but don't expect to find her until I got home. Three days later, I left the door open, turned on the lights and music, and at 11:30 she came in. When Junior opened a window and got out, I went outside about 10:30 with his noisy mouse, and he came out from the shadows 3 houses away, right to me.
The point is that in the stillness of the night, the cats were not as afraid to come out, or were able to hear me/the mouse when there were no competing noises and confusion. The other thing is, if she has a tiny voice or got locked up in a garage, you can't possibly hear that during the day. 12:00 midnight would be a good time for that.
Please give these suggestions a try JUST IN CASE!! I don't know if it will work but I HOPE you can go out at 11 or so with a familiar noise-making device, and I hope you are able to leave doors open etc. to see if she comes in. (by the way, with Jake and Sam's first time out, it was at a house in Mount Vernon, the Sam's second time and Junior's time out was at an appartment here in Torrington).
