 | | | | Hi everyone!
I am Tam (we know NOT where that name came from,) as that was my name at the rescue center, and I am hearing impaired. Mom wondered why the only words I responded to was "NO," and not anything else and then she caught me watching her face shortly after she had adopted me and then she came and talked directly into my ear and my ear never flinched. So, she and Papa took me to the vet, who found nothing. But, there is no doubt that I cannot hear. I make up for it by responding to vibrations and if something falls in the house, I jump almost out of my skin! Mom has spent a lot of time trying to teach me sign language, or her rendition of it, and I can pretty much know what she is thinking ... or maybe that is my ESP coming into play! I tend to stay in my own little world, and when Rebel wants me, he tends to go thru the house with a blood curdling yowl just to find me, which he usually does. Mom has thought of putting a chip in me, but has yet to make up her mind about that. I love my Mom as she seems to think ahead of me. She tells me I am smart ... and I must admit I think she is right! She has learned VERYquickly that I respond to the word "EAT" really quickly! She is trying to get me hooked on the word "wand" and while I LOVE to play with it, I cannot hear the word "wand," but if she beats it on the floor, I can feel the vibration and "coming running," ... if I feel like it, that is!
Mom was going to take me to an ear specialist, but there was only one in town, and he is no longer in business, so we just keep on doing what we are doing and having fun while we are at it.
If anyone else has hearing problems, I know Mom would love to know about it and talk about what may work for them.
Hugs
