I was just playing, but mommy got a bad infection in her leg. She got real sick, septic, they said and an infection in her leg cells.
I bit mommy when playing last Wednesday morning. On Friday she was fine when she went to work. In ten minutes she got a rash and a painful leg. In two hours, she had a huge red rash on her leg that covered the whole front part from her ankle to her knee. It looked like a chemical burn. The school nurse sent mommy to the ER. (she thought it could be a blood clot--the ER dr was worried, too, but it wasn't). Poor mommy got so sick and hurt so much. The dr sent mommy home with meds but she was so sick and the rash grew and grew in 3 hours. She got a 103 temp. Daddy took her back to the hospital and they kept my mommy until today. She just got home. I have to learn not to bite her when I play. Mommy had to have all sorts of tests, but the bacteria was not in her bone (good news). The dr said that some cat bites can cause a bad infection in the human. Mommy has had cats for over 30 years and got bit many times. She's never seen such a thing. Her leg turned chemical-burn red all the way around her leg. It is better now but she is home from school for another week and on meds for two more weeks.
Please purr for my mommy. She is doing better but her leg looks so bad.
Bree bit mom once - she (Sabrina, not mom) was climbing on the crate, slipped, and started to fall off the crate, but her leg got stuck, and twisted, and she started to scream. Mom picked her up and freed her leg, but in the meantime, Bree sunk all four fangs up to the gums in mom's wrist - it was an automatic reaction to the pain, not done in anger or anything.
Bree's leg, albeit a little sore, was not broken, and she was walking on it just fine in about two or three minutes. It took mom's wrist almost TWO MONTHS (and a small fortune in antibiotic ointments) to heal completely.
We will be sending purrrrayers and well wishes to your mommy until she is all better again. Purrrrs, R.R.
Poor Legolas' mom. We hope you feel better soon. None of the cats mom has now ever bit her hard enough to break skin, but it has happened to her before. Once when she was a little girl and shut a door on a cat's tail. Her mommy took her to the doctor but she was ok. One other time she had a kitty who was very angry with another kitty(mom's cat was inside and the other cat was outside and teading him). anyway, mom moved and her cat attacked her ankle. It hurt, but she was ok then too.
Anyway, Legolas' mom, we purr for you to be all better very soon.
I hope your mom will feel much better soon. But when she does, she should teach you not to bite her, and figure out ways to stay out of your way when you are too upset to think straight.
Mom says that what works is you stop playing with a cat as soon as they start nipping at you. This prevents the rough play from escalating. Always walk away at the first nip, and ignore us for about five minutes. If you do this very firmly (allow no excuses), your kitty will learn that nipping is not ok.
This is not to say that you will never nip again, only you will realize when you do that you should stop. I was good about not nipping for a long time, but lately I've been more nervous and started again. I nipped mommy two nights ago while I was settling down to sleep next to her. Mom thinks a noise scared me, but nonetheless, up she got from the bed and left me all alone. When she got back, I licked her to say sorry and went to sleep. I haven't tried it again.
The problem is that I LOVE my mommy! I have to follow her around the house and BE with her all the time (unless I'm on the porch of course). So every morning when she's trying to get ready for work, I lounge all over the bathroom and she has to step over me. Or I lay in the doorway to the bathroom /bedroom or to the bedroom/living room. People have to step over me and when they do, I can't resist the sight of dangling toes! Mommy told me that from now on I can't sit in the bathroom with her. I have to stay on the bed out of the way or I have to sit in the living room with the door SHUT. I have given mommy lots of hugs and she says that my tail actually makes her sore leg feel better.
Your mom could always bring a can full of pennies with her and shake it to distract you. Mom used it when I would attack her toes looking for bed mice. Eventually I decided the bed mice would just have to sort themselves out...
Wow Legolas........you meowmie really got a bad reaction. We will keep her in our purrrrrs that she recovers well!! I like to nip at feet and toes when meowmie is sitting in the living room. I will walk up and start rubbing my head on the feet for a few times then I will start a cute little nibble......then I go in for the kill......MOL. I don't break the skin but meowmie gets mad and yells at me and makes me go away til I want to play nice.
