Anyone who has a pet with IBD knows that it is hard. There is nothing worse than watching your furry child lay shaking looking at you to help them and being able to do nothing. All that over a tid bit of unidentified food will make you an obsessive vacuumer.

Being Maggie's mummy (mom), I have seen this scenerio too many times. Having to say no to giving her a piece of egg or chicken from the table, or even chewable Heartgard is very hard.

This is a place where people can come together an share breakthroughs and trials with this annoying disease. Learn from each other's mistakes, help each other through the biopsies of diagnosis, and give each other hints on how to feel like you're spoiling your lovey without making them sick.

Please join the group even if you don't know if your pet has IBD, or if you think your pet might have IBD, or if you just would like to learn more about it.

Hope to talk to you soon!

Making the switch to raw food was a lifesaver for Cairo. I was literally at my wits end trying to save her. I was tired of having her on Prednisone. I was so scared of what it might do to her Kidneys. I joined a Yahoo group on IBD cats who were big supporters of raw feeding. It was the turning point in our lives. All of our cats are healthier from eating raw food. Weight was lost and the quality of their lives greatly improved. I would highly recommend this diet to anyone who wants to improve their pet's health. applause

KC has IBD. The things which have helped her the most were giving up all dry kibble and eating only grain-free canned foods. I'm also a member of the Yahoo Feline IBD support group and have found it enormously helpful. I'm so glad for Cairo that the raw diet has been such a success for her. I tried a raw diet with KC but she will not eat raw meat.

What has helped me the most is since I have been on Vetsasyl. Mom calls it Kitty Krack, because we all eat better since it is in our food. I am also on Prednisilone every day. The Doc says kittys do much better with that that Prednisone. And I get PROZyme in my food.

Since I am all this stuff - I am eating better, and I have gained weight. I don't meow at the litter box anymore.

I am happy there is a group for creatures with this.

wave Hello kitties,
I just found this group. I have been battling IBD for almost a year now and I am only 4 years old.(Well, I will be in a few days)
I will not eat raw! No way and I love to eat.
My mom is worried about me being on Pred and we just recently found a new vet who says to try to wean me off it. We have cut the dose by half..we are doing it slowly. I eat only duck and pea from Hill's. My mom is very strict and no people food for any of us. I don't even get treats.(How sad, eh?)
So anyway we are glad we found you guys.
Not easy when the kitty you love has a life long condition.
Love,
Wally

Hi there Wally,

Sorry that you have IBD too. I think your mom is on the right track with trying changes in your diet. That's what's helped me so much and I'm not on any meds. I won't eat raw either (no WAY!) but I do eat the canned foods that mom gives me, Wellness, Nature's Variety, Natural Balance (chicken & liver pate), and Merrick. They don't have any grains in them and now my tummy doesn't hurt anymore like it did when I was eating all those dry foods and Friskees canned foods. That's what worked for me and I hope your mom finds the best foods to help you. I can't eat beef but I seem to be able to handle everything else. It isn't all bad. When your tummy is much better, maybe your mom could try some of those 100% meat freeze dried treats. I LUV those Halo Liv-a-Littles treats. My fav is the chicken (in moderation of course). smile

Hi Jesse James (cool name)!

What is Vetsasyl? Do you need a prescription for it or can it bought any where?

Mom has tried to get me to take Prozyme (and probiotics) in my food but I'm NOT allowing it! Even when she puts a pinch in my food (starting out slow, ya know), I know it's there because I watch her very carefully when she's preparing my food. If I see ANYTHING going into my food, I won't eat it. How does your mom "trick" you into eating food with Prozyme in it?
