The humans brought home a big dumb dog about 2 weeks ago. I was doing fine while he was downstairs and I was queen of the upstairs.

Yesterday I went downstairs for a bit, I was playing behind the couch when all of a sudden -- big slobbery dog! I ran off and the dumb dog tried to chase me, but the smaller human grabbed him and yelled at the dog. Since then the humans have been looking for me, I show up but then run off.

I'm not happy there's a dumb dog in the house. Stanley and Sadie don't mind him -- I wonder if they're cats at all? Any one got any ideas how I can teach this dog that I'm boss in this house? Otherwise, the humans are going to think I'm crabbier than I've ever been.

I"ve been in a similar situation as you. When I came into my new home, we had a medium-sized dog named Chelsea who, honestly, wasn't looking for trouble, but I hated her within every inch of my life. I batted at her everytime she walked by and generally made her life miserable (did I mention that this was an elderly almost sixteen year old dog?). Finally, one night Mom and Dad were watching tv in the bedroom with the lights out. They didn't really hear anything, but when the show was over and they turned on the lights, it looked like a bloodbath! Blood was all over the carpet, walls, blinds, furniture, and--of course--Chelsea. Once they got to cleaning (and what a job that was), they realized that all that mess came from a little pinprick cut on Chelsea's ear. I was on our Bad Boy list for days, but I never did anything like that again. I must have just felt really cornered and had a really good aim. We don't recommend anything like that for your dog and cat, but we've had enough dogs and cats to know that they'll usually develop a natural pecking order. With our new dog, I only needed to swat at her a few times to let her know that I'm boss. We peacefully coxesist (most of the time) nowadays. Good luck with your buddies. Take care.

Sincerely,
